The workshops will be held on September 26 in the TahoeChamber Conference Room at 169 US HWY 50, Stateline, NV. Bring a laptop computer to interactively participate in the workshop. Census Workshop for Business Owners begins at 9am, and Census Workshop for Grant Writers begins at 1pm. Space is limited; register in advance online at www.tahoechamber.org.
The first workshop is designed for entrepreneurs and business owners/managers. Census data can assist in studying your market, identifying your competition, assist with researching site locations and many other uses. The course content will include training on basic navigation of the Census website, including an introduction to American FactFinder and the portal to Census data, a brief overview of data collection methods, an overview of data available from the Economic Census, Survey of Business Owners, Local Employment Dynamics and other business tools pertinent to marketing, managing and growing your business.
The second workshop is designed for attendees to learn how to access the most current Census data via the new and enhanced American FactFinder. This workshop will help you successfully navigate through FactFinder and capture information that will support your grant writing and lead to better results. Census Data Overview topics will include Decennial Census (Age, sex, race, origin, households, families, housing data), American Community Survey (Find the characteristics of your community), Population Estimates Program and more. Census Data Navigation will go over Search Filters, Working with Tables, Map and Mapping Resources, and creating a Basic Community Profile.
