Two Grow Domes going in at Sierra House Elementary; $117,000 raised so far

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) approved two grow domes to be installed at Sierra House Elementary School. Ground is being broken on the project area this weekend and the project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Fundraising has been conducted on linewhere $117,990 has been raised to date. According to the website, the grow domes will allow students and staff to rovide fresh organic produce to incorporate into school lunches and an ecology lab to study soil, verimculture, aquaponics, math, science, and lanugage arts. Sierra House is also proud to be part of regional food security organizations like the Tahoe Food Hub and the Dome Raising Project.

Sierra House Principal Ryan Galles thanked everyone for being so patient and so supportive through this process. “It has been a long wait, but we will be seeing some results of this effort very soon. Special thanks to Michelle McLean, Rebecca Bryson, Sara Moss, Julie Lowe, our Green Committees and everyone who has contributed to this project,” he said.
