Letter to the Editor: Rockin' Pinktober in Tahoe

It’s the terrible ‘c’ word, cancer. Almost everyone has someone in their lives battling or who has lost the fight against cancer. It takes a toll on everyone. Personally, I have a cousin who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and he likely has less than two years with his family.

As Hard Rock International, we have been supporting cancer-based charities every October within our individual communities for 20 years. Here at South Lake Tahoe/Stateline, this will be our third year supporting the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. The past two years we’ve helped raise $18,000 and we plan for more this year. Currently we are sitting at approximately $5,400 donations.

To that end, we invite our locals, visitors and employees alike to surpass that amount. We are privileged to offer guests the opportunity to come out to support this cause and gather for fundraising events to spread a message of strength, hope and awareness for those affected by this disease

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is a non-profit corporation established in 1980 by a group of residents aware of the needs to those confronting cancer. The organization helps support cancer patients with transportation to treatments, as well as through financial aid grants. Within the past year, the organization has received four times the number of requests for help.

This year’s program has plenty of pink to go around with the $20,000 Pink Picks throughout the month; and Tickled Pink Gift Giveaways on Tuesdays featuring the Pinktober pins and gear. In addition, all food outlets are rounding up for donations.

I’m proud to lead this rockin’ team who gives back this month and during the year through a multitude of endeavors like volunteering, beach/trail cleanups, and hosting a series of non-profit events.

Pink is the new black this season so rock that color and join us in efforts to support local cancer patients and families.

Thank You,
