The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's annual See's Candy Sale will be at the American Legion Post #795 in the entry hall Saturday and Sunday, December 19/20 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Candy purchased from the Cancer League supports the monthly grants given to local cancer patients and reimburses volunteer drivers who take local patients to their appointments in Truckee, Sacramento, Carson Valley, and Reno.

Moose Lodge raises $14,000 for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League during Longest Day of Golf

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From sunup to sundown, golfers recently hit the links at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. Sponsored by the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe for 14 years, the Longest Day of Golf raised $14,000 to go to help local cancer patients.

On Friday a check was presented by tournament organizer Mary Luckel to the Cancer League during a barbeque at the Moose Lodge. The men and women of the Moose Lodge, the golf course and many local businesses helped the league during their Longest Day of Golf.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is launching their biggest fundraiswer of the year, the annual See's Candy Sale, on Friday, November 16, 2018.

This year the sale is located in the Crossing located at 2038 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. The Crossing has generously donated the space to the Cancer League.

The store will be operated by volunteers from 10:00 a..m to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays until they are sold out.

Longest Day of Golf raises funds for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League

From sunup to sundown, a field of 11 golfers hit the links at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course Thursday to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

The Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe has sponsored the Longest Day of Golf for thirteen years. Lodge members spend the day driving golf carts, keeping the water and food flowing for the golfers, and helping to raise funds for charity.

13th annual Longest Day of Golf to raise funds for SLT Cancer League

The 13th annual Longest Day of Golf will be held on June 21, 2018, at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course and will be raising funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

Participants spend hours on the course, from sun-up to sun-down, or however long they can last, earning money for every hole they golf. During the 2017 event they raised $10,000 and this year's goal is to have golfers play over 135 holes and raise $12,000 to help the SLT Cancer League help locals with the disease.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's Annual See's Candy Sale is underway 1074 Emerald Bay Rd, at the Y, next to Beach Hut Deli. The store is open from noon to 5:30 PM daily through December 24th. it's time again for See's candy sales in South Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League got their candy in early and while the store isn't open until November 27, it is now available at local locations before Thanksgiving, just in time for a holiday treat.

Boxes can now be picked up at the Moose Lodge, Emerald Bay Salon, Scotty's Hardware at the Y, and Sessions Salon.

Longest Day of Golf nets SLT Cancer League over $9,400

Each year the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe (Loyal Order of Moose #1632) hosts the Longest Day of Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and today they celebrated their effors, $9,462. Since 2006, golfers in the day long event have raised $125,328.82 for the non-profit to use towards transportation and grants for local cancer patients.

South Shore resident Rosie Parker is fighting esophageal cancer, and a Lake Tahoe benefit concert is being held to help her and her family with growing expenses on Friday, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Cold Water Brewery.

“We are showing our love, we are showing our support for Rose,” said Cold Water owner Debbie Brown, “Our brewmaster’s wife was diagnosed with esophageal cancer back in August, and she is fighting the fight of her life.”

LTCC Fire Academy shaving heads at St. Baldrick's; Seeking donations

Students in Class 10 of the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy are shaving their heads to raise money to find cures for childhood cancers during the annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser on March 5 at Heavenly Mountain Resort, and they are seeking the community's support.

St. Baldrick's is a volunteer-powered charity that shows solidarity with young cancer patients through annual head-shaving events around the world that raise awareness and money for cancer research.

Stand up for Cancer event raising money for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League

Whittell senior wins Gene Upshaw Memorial Scholarhip

Whittell High School senior Daria Sharon was announced as the recipient for the seventh annual Gene Upshaw Scholarship Award at this year’s American Century Championship.

Her academic achievements and dedication to sports and community service made her the premier candidate to earn this scholarship, valued at $5,000.

Golfers to play dawn to dusk at Tahoe Paradise course for charity

The 10th Annual Longest Day of Golf will be held at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course on June 18, 2015. The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 has partnered with Sierra at Tahoe, and Harrah’s and Harvey's Casino Resorts t sponsor the event.

Last year the golfers played 130 holes of golf and raised over $12,000 for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer league.

Golfers start at sun-up and play as many holes as they can before sun-down. The golfers take pledges on a per hole basis or a flat dollar donation amount. This year’s goals are to play 130+ holes and raise over $12,000.00.

2014 Gene Upshaw Scholarship awarded to Whittell High student Melissa Petty

George Whittell High School student Melissa Petty of Stateline, NV. was announced as the recipient for the sixth annual Gene Upshaw Scholarship Award at this year’s American Century Championship. Petty’s essay about her hard work in the classroom, her sports, her faith and goodwill helped secure the scholarship valued at $5,000. Petty plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno and pursue a bachelor’s degree in science.

NFL Hall of Fame members Marcus Allen and Mike Haynes will join Cy Young winner Vida Blue and other sports stars at the 6th Annual Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic at Gray's Crossing in Truckee July 13 to 14.

The tournament is held to pay tribute to Hall of Famer and former Oakland Raider and Lake Tahoe resident Gene Upshaw and raise funds for cancer programs and traumatic brain injuries. Upshaw golfed often at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe before his sudden death from pancreatic cancer in 2008, just 3 days after being diagnosed.

Heads Shaved to Raise Funds for Cancer Research

Bailey Johnson was a four time Stage 4 cancer survivor by the time he was 5. Now a student at South Tahoe High, Bailey underwent surgery just over three weeks ago to help straighten his spine which was damaged while undergoing radiation.

Caitlyn Drennan is 3 1/2. She was diagnosed with cancer at birth and underwent chemotherapy when just 2 days old. She now needs a walker due paralysis below the knee but is a survivor of Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

Sometimes surprises come at the right time. Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.
