South Lake Tahoe collision sends five to hospital

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Saturday evening collision in South Lake Tahoe sent all five occupants of the two vehicles involved to the hospital.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on October 20, 2018, a sedan was eastbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard when its driver attempted to make a left turn into the Tahoe Keys Liquor parking lot in front of a westbound Chevy truck, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Travis Cabral. The sedan, with four out-of-town visitors inside was broadsided by the truck occupied only by the driver, a South Lake Tahoe man.

The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, South Lake Tahoe Police, Cal-Tahoe JPA and Tahoe Douglas Fire Departments all responded.

One of the backseat passengers in the sedan was seriously injured and transferred by ambulance to the Lake Tahoe Airport where he was met by a Calstar helicopter and transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

All westbound lanes of the road were closed for approximately 45 minutes.

According to Cabral, alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

Medical status of those involved have not been released.
