All back open after overturned truck closes parts of road in South Lake Tahoe

4:00 p.m. UPDATE: Most likley it will be the rate of speed a truck driver was traveling at that caused a semi-truck carrying woodchips to overturn in South Lake Tahoe Monday morning.

The 51-year-old woman from Placerville who was at the wheel was traveling from the south on Emerald Bay Road/US50 when she attempted a right-hand turn onto Lake Tahoe Blvd./US50. The truck tipped over and the cab and woodchips slide over into the westbound lanes of Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Those calling in to report the crash said bystanders were attempting to reach the driver and get her out of the cab, according to SLT Police Officer Traci Trapani. She said the driver declined help from medics and was not injured. Trapani also said it does not appear alcohol was a factor.

The truck is owned by CTL Logging out of Placerville. No charges are pending.

The scene was cleared by 12:45 p.m. The truck and woodchips were transported out of the area.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Drivers should avoid the Y in South Lake Tahoe this morning as crews work to clean up the scene after a semi-truck carrying woodchips overturned in the westbound lanes of Highway 50 (Lake Tahoe Blvd.).

At 8:41 a.m. Monday, October 28, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Police departments responded to a call of the overturned truck near the intersection with Emerald Bay Road. There were no injuries but there is a small hazmat leak of diesel that is being cleaned up.

Some cars are being allowed through in the westbound lanes but it is recommended to use the alternate routes of Winnemucca and Tahoe Keys Blvd. to avoid the area and traffic. More lanes will be closed when the truck is removed from the scene.

Multiple agencies responded along with police and fire including the JPA ambulance, CHP and Caltrans.

They are estimating a couple of hours for cleanup.
