V & T Railroad Transforms Into Polar Express for the Holidays

With the holiday season just weeks away, THE POLAR EXPRESS train is cannonballing down the fast track, with nearly all tickets aboard the historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad sold out.

In its third season, the all-ages ride from the frosty Northern Nevada landscape to the North Pole has won the hearts and minds of thousands of children and families. This year the V&T doubled the amount of THE POLAR EXPRESS train rides, adding 66 percent more seat, then at the eleventh hour, added three more Thursday holiday trains to accommodate the demand. With the added trains, remaining coach tickets are available Sunday, Nov. 24, Dec. 1 and Thursday, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, all departing at 8 p.m.

Set to THE POLAR EXPRESS motion picture soundtrack, pajama-clad children can relive the magical story as the Virginia and Truckee whisks families away for an unforgettable ride to the North Pole. During the journey, the Conductor will punch tickets and chefs will serve hot chocolate, followed by a reading of Van Allsburg’s classic. At the North Pole, Santa will step aboard and greet the children.

The V&T’s engine and holiday decorated passenger cars leave the Carson City Eastgate Depot (seven miles east of downtown Carson City) and travel nearly two miles before stopping at Santa's mythical North Pole retreat.

The limited coach tickets at $38 for adults and $29 for children (free for children under 2 who sit on a lap). THE POLAR EXPRESS departs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., from Nov. 22 to Dec. 22.
