Girls from South Tahoe High go for three-peat of Nevada state title

A little snow isn't going to get in the way of South Lake Tahoe's hosting of the 2015 NIAA Division 1-A High School Boys & Girls Soccer Championships November 13 and 14.

Since the new field at South Tahoe High is synthetic, snow can be plowed easily off the field, leaving it in good shape.

"Our maintenance department has done a great job of clearing the soccer field which is in excellent condition considering we recently had two snowstorms" said STHS Athletic Director Tony Sunzeri.

The South Tahoe High Girls Varsity Team is going into the championship as the number one seed from the north. They have won the title game the last two years, and three of the last four.

"Our girls have qualified again for the state soccer championships and because it is at home this year makes it even sweeter," said Sunzeri. "We would love to have the entire community come out to support them."

The games begin on Friday at STHS at noon Friday when Faith Lutheran and Truckee face off, following by STHS at 4 p.m. They play Spring Valley, the #2 seed from the south.

On the boys' side, Sparks plays S.E.T.C.A at 6 p.m., following the 2 p.m. game between CLark and Elko.

The champion will be crowned after Saturday's final games. For the girls, the winner of the South Tahoe game will play the winner of the Truckee-Faith Lutheran game at 10 a.m. at the high school. The boys' final game will follow at noon.

The weather is expected to cooperate throughout the weekend, with highs on Friday near 50, and 51 on Saturday. Since it gets shady at the STHS field early, dress warmly, especially Friday afternoon.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults $5 for students, $3 for seniors ages 62 and up. And children under 8 are free. All proceeds go to the Nevada interscholastic activities association. No booster passes are accepted during NIAA tournaments.
