Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

South Tahoe High School had a slow week, as students began to settle in. On the other hand, the sports teams have a busy weekend.

The cross-country team is competing in a meet at the Nevada Union High School on Saturday.

“I can see great potential in everyone going forward and can’t wait to see what the team will bring to big meets, come the end of season,” said junior Carissa Buchholz, the current 3A Nevada state champion.

The volleyball team (4-0) defeated Fernley High School (4-1) on Thursday in four sets. On Saturday, they play Lowry High School (0-2) at 12:00 p.m. in the Blue Gym at STHS.

The football team (1-1) has a home game tonight at 7 p.m. against Spring Creek High School (0-2) at the Viking Football Field.

The girls’ soccer team (3-0-1) plays against Truckee High School (4-0) on Monday at the Viking Football Field at 5 p.m. Boys' soccer (4-3) hosts Lowry (4-3-1) at 5:00 p.m.

Boys' tennis has had two straight wins - 13-5 over North Valley on Sept. 10 and 15-3 over Sparks on Sept.12. They take their undefeated record to their next match on Sept. 19 at 3:00 p.m. when they host Truckee, who are also 2-0 in league play. Girl's tennis will travel to Truckee for their next match on Sept. 19. Their Sept. 12 score against Sparks hasn't been reported yet but they too beat North Valleys on Sept 10, 15-3.

The Tahoe Hockey Academy’s Varsity team plays Capital Thunder Youth Hockey at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.

Girls' Golf has their next match in South Lake Tahoe on Sept. 16 at 9:00 a.m. then up in Truckee on Sept. 17 at 9:00 a.m. They were 5th of 9 on Sept. 3 in Spring Creek and 4th of 9 on Sept. 4 in Elko.
