Head-on collision at Lake Tahoe sends both drivers to hospital

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Two drivers were transported to area hospitals with substantial injuries after their vehicles collided on US50 north of Skyland late Sunday afternoon.
At this time the Nevada Highway Patrol is not releasing many details due to possible prosecution in the case, according to spokesperson Trooper Hannah DeGoey.
What has been released is the drivers of a Chevrolet Astro cargo van and a Nissan Pathfinder hit head-on at near the highway's intersection with Tall Pines Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. The highway was closed as the injured were taken care of, the scene processed for an investigation and vehicles removed.
One driver was transported via ambulance and the other via Careflight.
The drivers were the only occupant in each vehicle.
No other information is being released and the collision is still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.
