An apparent gas main leak at the entrance to the Sunridge subdivision caused an explosion that damaged two vehicles and disrupted traffic on Highway 395 and Mica Drive in Douglas County.
Southbound 395 and westbound Mica Drive now open and moving normally. Northbound 395 is being rerouted via South Sunridge and North Sundridge drives.
A resident who lives nearby, Rick Dodds, a retired Carson City Sheriff deputy, said he witnessed the explosion, and saw it blow dirt and rocks about 100 feet into the air. He said it appeared to have damaged a wall on the property.
According to scanner traffic, Nevada Highway Patrol reported that two vehicles that were driving past the intersection were damaged by the explosion. Southwest Gas was called to the scene.
