Douglas County Explorers compete against 300 others in California competition

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Explorer's Post #2105 recently competed against 25 other law enforcement agencies in the 2016 Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition in Hanford, Calif.

The two day event against Explorers from California featured both mentally and physically challenging events.

"This young team, most of whom is their second time competing, did an outstanding job overall and represented Douglas County very well," said Sgt. Bernadette Smith in a press release.

The DSCO team met over three hundred other youth who share similar interests and goals, so they had the ability to do some networking.

"One of the most memorable moments occurred when our Explorer Post teamed up with the Explorers from Lemoore, Calif., and worked on officer down rescues," said Smith. "The Explorer’s did well dealing with this particularly stressful situation and mostly importantly they learned to work through the challenges and obstacles put before them."

Explorers consider themselves one big family and they love, honor and respect one another and their commitment to law enforcement and what it represents.

The Explorers said they are grateful for being able to compete in such a memorial events and send kudos to those that helped support their trip.
