A 23-year-old Markleville woman was transported to Renown Medical Center via Calstar with moderate injuries on Sunday, December 11 after crashing her vehicle on SR-89.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Caitlin Shanahan was driving her GMC Sierra northbound just after 2:00 p.m. at an unknown rate of sped when she drifted off the roadway onto the dirt and rock shoulder and embankment, striking a rock outcropping. The out-of-control vehicle then hit a large tree. The impact caused the Sierra to overturn and slide across the roadway, stopping on the opposite side of the road on the descending embankment.
At some point during the collision, Shanahan was ejected from the vehicle.
She was charged with a DUI and sent to Renown. Her current condition is unknown.
The collision closed both lanes of SR-89 near Turtle rock Country Road while emergency personnel took care of Shanahan, allowing a space on the narrow roadway for the helicopter to land.
