December 30 deadline to apply for City of South Lake Tahoe commissions and board

The deadline is rapidly approaching for locals to apply for 19 open positions on City of South Lake Tahoe commissions and boards.

Two year appointments are now being accepted for Airport Land Use Commission, Building/ADA Board of Appeals, Parks & Recreation Commission and Planning Commission.

Completed applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m., on Friday, December 30, 2016. The City Council will be making the appointments at a regularly scheduled meeting in January 2017 (to be announced).

AIRPORT LAND USE COMMISSION:
The City Council will be appointing two (2) members to Airport Land Use Commission. Applicants must have an expertise in aviation, by way of education, training, business, experience, vocation, or avocation has acquired and possesses particular knowledge of, and familiarity with, the function, operation, and role of airports, or is an elected official of a local agency which owns or operates an airport. The Airport Land Use Commission meets on an as needed basis.

BUILDING/ADA BOARD OF APPEALS:
The City Council will be appointing seven (7) members to serve a two-year term on the Building/ADA Board of Appeals. Applicants must be: (1) a plumbing contractor; (2) a heating and ventilating contractor; (3) an electrical engineer; (4) a general building contractor experienced in both residential and commercial construction; (5) an architect or engineer. Each shall have a valid California license and shall have a minimum of five years’ experience in their field. Also two (2) members will be appointed who are physically handicapped persons. Applicants must reside and be domiciled within the Tahoe Basin portion of El Dorado County. The Building/ADA Board of Appeals Commission meets on an as needed basis.

PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION:
The City Council will be appointing five (5) members to serve two-year terms on the Parks & Recreation Commission. Applicants must reside within the Tahoe Basin portion of El Dorado County. The Parks and Recreation Commission meets at least quarterly. Of the current five commissioners, two have already stated they will not be returning.

PLANNING COMMISSION:
The City Council will be appointing five (5) members to serve a two-year term on the Planning Commission. Applicants must reside within the city limits. The Planning Commission meets monthly assuming there is business to conduct. So far, there are three current commissioners expressing interest in reapplying and at least five applications have been received.

Applications may be obtained at the City Clerk’s Office located at 1901 Airport Road, South Lake Tahoe, CA between 8 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications can also be downloaded from the City’s website at www.cityofslt.us/commissions, mailed, faxed or emailed to interested parties upon request to the City Clerk’s Office.
