The project opens public access to the river and will feature a picnic table or two, bike racks and informational kiosk.
Five Lake Tahoe recreation sites to get ADA upgrades

The approved the California Tahoe Conservancy Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan (Plan) authorizes staff to take all actions necessary to carry out the barrier removals at five of their sites on the California side of Lake Tahoe:
• Kings Beach Plaza (8608 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach);
• North Tahoe Beach (7860 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach);
New shuttle and one-way traffic to help alleviate Apple Hill congestion

Weekend crowds are already heading to the farms, wineries and breweries from Placerville to Pollock Pines, but the thousands of cars that make the trip each week during the month of October have prompted transportation, farming, tourism, safety and County officials to work together to alleviate the weekend gridlock on area roads.

March 31, 2018 - 10:00am The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club will be holding their 51st annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31 at Lake Tahoe Community College adjacent to the gymnasium.
The fun gets underway at 10:00 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m., the Easter Bunny will start the traditional parade. There will be judging of all in Easter Bonnets and Easter Costumes starting at 10:45 a.m.
The big hunt for eggs starts at 11:00 a.m.
The hunt is open to ages 11 and under. Areas will be divided by age group, including an area for handicapped children.
Season winding down for El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/13/2017 - 1:23pmBeginning on Monday, September 18, 2017, the El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp at Lakeview Commons will be closed Monday through Wednesday, and open Thursday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The last launch will be at 4:30 p.m.
The last day of Boat Ramp operations will be Sunday, October 1, 2017.
The maximum boat length is 23 feet. The boat length is subject to change due to water levels. The boat ramp passes under Lakeview Avenue, with a maximum 12 foot clearance.

The Live at Lakeview Summer Music Concert Series begins on Thursday, June 22, 2017. The summer concert series will occur every Thursday beginning on June 22nd to August 31st from 4:30-8:30. On these Thursday’s the boat ramp will open at 8am and close at 1pm. Boats will need to be off the lake by 1pm.

During their next meeting on Tuesday, January 16, the City Council will fill the open seats on those commissions: Planning, Parks & Recreation, Airport Land Use and Building/ADA Board of Appeals.
Controversy brewing as City and County reps on Tahoe Conservancy Board resign
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/15/2017 - 5:33pmFriday's board meeting of the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) was delayed almost two hours due to ice on the road near near Zephyr Cove, causing it to close, and those weren't the only icy conditions on the South Shore that day.
The other ice could be felt during the meeting as conflict of interest, ethics, integrity, suspicious actions and lack of transparency were the theme of the day.
All three items on the agenda Friday were placed there amid a stressed relationship between the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County and Patrick Wright, the Executive Director of the CTC.
December 30 deadline to apply for City of South Lake Tahoe commissions and board

Two year appointments are now being accepted for Airport Land Use Commission, Building/ADA Board of Appeals, Parks & Recreation Commission and Planning Commission.
Completed applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m., on Friday, December 30, 2016. The City Council will be making the appointments at a regularly scheduled meeting in January 2017 (to be announced).

The City of South Lake Tahoe is looking for residents to fill 19 city commission and board positions on the Planning Commission, Recreation Commission, Airport Land Use Commission and the Building/ADA Board of Appeals. Applications are being accepted until the deadline of December 2, 2016.

Douglas County Citizen Patrol welcomes 35 new volunteers
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/20/2016 - 6:53pmSheriff Ron Pierini issued a pledge of service to the 35 new members of the Douglas County Citizen Patrol on June 15.
The volunteers are now able to assist the sheriff’s office by conducting vacation checks on residences, marking and towing abandoned vehicles on public streets, enforcing handicapped parking, writing minor reports such as lost wallets or cell phones, conduct VIN checks, and work special events such as traffic contol to Carson Valley Days, Fishing Derby and Parade of Lights.
Attorney known for plethora of ADA lawsuits making rounds in South Lake Tahoe

Between 2009-11, Carmichael attorney Scott Johnson inundated small businesses with letters requesting they bring buildings in line with access laws for the disabled. He followed up the letters with several lawsuits in South Lake Tahoe.
New STHS bleachers behind schedule but ready by first game

They are the contractors working on the new football stadium bleachers at South Tahoe High and they missed the August 8 deadline for completion of the project. Summer rains caused several delays but they are now back on track to have the project finished by August 21, a week before the school's first football game.

Passions run high at City's vacation home rental meeting
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/24/2015 - 9:29pmAn overflowing audience of South Lake Tahoe residents, home owners, vacation home owners, real estate agents, property managers, vacation rental companies, locals and city officials were on hand Tuesday night at the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) community workshop held in City Council chambers at the airport.
City Manager Nancy Kerry ran the meeting, giving everyone a chance to speak their opinion after a short presentation.

Scott Michal applied and will be appointed if Council believes he meets the qualifications.

There was just one spot filled of the required two for the Airport Land Use Commission. Michael Siracuse was appointed to the two year term. Ted Long had applied for the other position but the Council said he didn't meet the experience requirements. The City will look for a qualified candidate to fill the open spot.
South Tahoe High's new bleachers to include press box, handicapped seating

A bid was awarded during Tuesday's Lake Tahoe Unified School Board meeting to the Southern Bleacher Company of Texas to remove the 49-year old home side stands and install new ones that are ADA compliant and satisfy the snow loads and safety features required by the state.

People are now able to apply for the Community Development Block Grant program in Douglas County. The public is invited to provide ideas, comments and potential projects.
