South Lake Tahoe prepares for SnowGlobe

The stages were being set up Monday at the Community Play Fields in South Lake Tahoe. Large tents could be seen from Al Tahoe Blvd as work crews were busy getting things ready for SnowGlobe which will be in South Lake Tahoe December 28-31.

Residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the fields and Lake Tahoe Community College received a letter recently from the City of South Lake Tahoe, alerting them that the three day outdoor concert is once again coming to the South Shore.

"Most people know about the event now and they sound and impacts," said Nancy Kerry on the letter to surrounding homeowners. "I still thought it was very important to send the notice out again." Both city and county residents near the venue received the letter.

With no snow on the ground to absorb the sound as it did in 2013, concert organizers are working with the City to lesson the sound impact to the adjacent neighborhoods. SnowGlobe CEO Chad Donnelly and City Manager Nancy Kerry will communicate each day of the concert to address concerns and review the sound levels. They will be monitoring the sound from the main stage at three different locations during each show.

"We have worked very hard to address all sounds issues," said Kerry. "I think they've done a good job listening to the community."

The City has set up a SnowGlobe hotline at (530) 542-6001. Someone will be reviewing messages all night long.

The December 28-30 concert is bringing not only throngs of young people to the community, its also bringing good revenue to local businesses which in a drought and low snow year may have been rather weak.

It is estimated that SnowGlobe brings in a $6 million economic benefit to South Lake Tahoe. According to Kerry, hotels say the three day concert makes a difference. So far, almost 12,000 tickets have been sold for the concert.

One of the other positive sides to having a concert of this caliber in our community is the promotion the area gets, and the exposure the up and coming generation is getting to South Lake Tahoe.
