SnowGlobe addresses many issues; NoGlobe Alliance remains concerned with sound

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - SnowGlobe 2018 is in the books, and according to law enforcement and other safety personnel as well as festival organizers, it was the most successful one yet.

There were fewer arrests and citations, fewer medical issues and an increase in community collaboration to help the event be both successful and less of a burden to the neighboring residents who have expressed concern over noise from the bass-centric sounds of the electronic music performers on the outdoor stages.

Letter: South Lake Tahoe City Council must be leaders on affordable housing

The follow letter was given to South Tahoe Now and mailed to the South Lake Tahoe Mayor, City Councilmembers and staff:

Dear Mayor David and Council Members:

One day to SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

Last touches are being finished at the temporary concert venue on the South Lake Tahoe community field to prepare for estimated 15,000 people who will be attending SnowGlobe 2016. From December 29-31, 2016, electronic music fans will fill the town, and organizers have put some new transportation plans in place to accommodate the crowd attending the almost sold out concert.

Permit for SnowGlobe late night party at Hard Rock denied

Citing concerns for safety, under-age party goers and an already taxed law enforcement staff, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners denied an outdoor festival permit for SnowGlobe Late Night events December 29-31 at Stateline.

Chad Donnelly proposed the after-party each night of the annual concert to be held under a tent in the parking lot of Hard Rock Lake Tahoe from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The proposal was just in writing as neither Donnelly or representatives from the Hard Rock attended the meeting.

SnowGlobe extended until 2018; Promoter wants to bring three more events to town annually

The annual SnowGlobe Music Festival is here to stay, at least for now.

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoter Chad Donnelly went before the elected officials, asking them for a three year extension of the annual festival until 2019 (though they would ultimately like a deal until 2027), and more money from the City to help with the costs of garbage pick-up and transportation for the three-day event which runs from December 29-31 each year.

What the City gave him was not quite what he was asking for as he got more cash, but less time.

South Lake Tahoe arrests down over the New Year holiday

As usual, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department bolstered our patrol staffing to meet the emergency response needs of our crowded City during the New Year celebration period. There were squads of officers patrolling the state line area, the Snow Globe festival and extra officers were also assigned to work patrol throughout the City. South Lake Tahoe was quite full with holiday revelers, and the number of calls for emergency police responses was consistent with recent past years. We are pleased to report there was a decrease in arrests as compared to last year.

The celebratory crowd at Stateline was once again a small crowd, estimated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to be between 5,000-10,000. The road through the casino corridor didn't have to close until 11:58 p.m.

Minors and alcohol the biggest issue for law enforcement at SnowGlobe

The three-day SnowGlobe music festival in South Lake Tahoe attracts a young crowd with many college, and high school students in attendance. They enjoy the electronic music with DJs that are heard throughout the venue on the three stages.

What is also popular at the event is drinking. The trained staff that serves alcohol at SnowGlobe knows what to look for in the way of fake identification which is evident of the citations issued over the first two days at the festival.

Day One of SnowGlobe: Excited music fans, very few complaints

SnowGlobe two days in: 52 arrests and six noise complaints

With crowds approaching 14,000 nightly, one would expect some complaints and arrests. SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe had both during the first two nights.

There was one arrest for selling drugs and two noise complaints phoned into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's dispatch.

High energy at SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

There is so much more to SnowGlobe that the beat of the bass heard echoing through the trees in your neighborhood. It is much more than a very large group of young people turning out for a techno concert outdoors.

It is an experience.

I am a member of the "over 50" crowd so the music featured at SnowGlobe is not something I know much about so I went into SnowGlobe to see what it's all about.

Donation of winter hats, scarves and gloves needed at SnowGlobe

Freezing temperatures and snow are common for Lake Tahoe, but for those people not used to the elements they can cause problems including frostbite or even death.

Not wanting anyone to suffer and booth at Snow Globe is giving out gloves and scarves to anyone that needs protection from the weather. Nick and Kadi Alfield had what they thought to be plenty of outer gear to give away at their booth, Lighthouse, inside SnowGlobe. But that turned out to be not the case as their whole supply was given away on the opening night of the three day concert.

SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared for very cold temperatures

Cold, Cold, Cold. That is the forecast for South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday night and SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared.

SnowGlobe attendees will need to be prepared for very cold temps since the high on Tuesday will max out at 24 and the low of 10 will feel more like -7 with the wind chill.

October Skibum

Did the Tough Mudder again at Northstar and I got to say, Tahoe North
oops North Shore sure has their act together when it comes to events
and how to put them on. They work with promoters who don't threaten
them and are willing to compromise to bring world class events to
their side of the lake.

Although I must admit they do not, for the most part, have to deal
with the TRPA and councils that don't have the best interest of their
own community at heart. Now I am not saying that our council is
totally dysfunctional, only a little. Most everything that is getting
