Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger Golf Tournament supports Ronald McDonald House

RENO/STATELINE, Nev. – Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger owners and staff recently presented a $40,000 check to Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada. The funds came from the third golf tournament hosted for the charity by the popular bar and restaurant that has locations in both Lake Tahoe and Reno.

LTUSD starts Hall of Distinction to recognize those who have left their mark on the community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif - The Kiwanis Club of South Tahoe is looking to collect 3,000 pairs of socks this year for kids in the South Lake Tahoe community. Last year they were able to collect over 2,000 pairs and are looking to put new socks on even more children this year.

Sierra State Parks Foundation hosting virtual auction with unique items for access for all programs

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Sierra State Parks Foundation is hosting a virtual auction through November 28 at midnight (PT). Funds raised go to support educational programs at the California State Parks in the Lake Tahoe – Donner Lake area. These educational programs for children of all ages are kept free of cost in order to build a more equitable park system. Supporting this fundraiser creates lifelong park and nature lovers. Tom Millham to receive DAR Medal of Honor

The Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has announced that Tom Millham will be honored with the DAR Medal of Honor. This is the most prestigious honor awarded by the DAR and given to individuals who are United States citizens by birth and who have shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism.

The recipients must have made unusual and lasting contributions to our American Heritage by truly giving of themselves to their community, state, country, and fellowmen.

American Legion gifted new snowblower by Alpine Smith after burglary

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Within minutes of the story breaking about a snowblower being stolen from the American Legion Post 795 in South Lake Tahoe, the community stepped up to help.

The first call came from Christina Bicker who offered to donate money to a new one, and if the Legion needed more, she'd buy them the snowblower.

Special Olympics Team Tahoe Bowling begins 2024 season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Team Tahoe has begun their 2023 Special Olympics bowling practices at Tahoe Bowl with 24 athletes, one of the largest teams ever for the South Shore-based group.

With just a few weeks of practice to go, the team is getting ready for the Northern Nevada Special Olympics games in November. Held in Reno at the National Bowling Stadium, athletes will compete with others from Northern Nevada hoping to collect medals and reconnect with friends from other teams.

Instructor Guy uses a light handed approach to help you to teach your dog to obey the commands: heel, sit, stay and recall. Each dog needs a training collar, a fabric or leather lead. Free parking at Heavenly Village for Halloween event

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All kids are invited to the Heavenly Village on Halloween for a fun trick-or-treating event with 50 candy stops, a bounce house and slide, and a $1,000 costume contest on October 31 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Shops at Heavenly Village has partnered with the South Tahoe Chamber to provide the free event. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue with their fire truck and South Lake Tahoe Police Department will also be there to hand out candy and stickers.

The City of South Lake Tahoe will be offering free parking in the Bellamy Parking Garage from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Historical Society offers annual Giant Snowflake Class

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is holding its annual Giant 3D Flake Making Class on November 13 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

The class size is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $15 for Members and $20 for non-members. Additional patterns are available for $7 each.

Each participant will make one snowflake for themselves and one for the museum. Bring your favorite sharp scissors, and they provide the rest!

National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month

November is National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month- a public awareness campaign designed to “shine a light” on the experiences of youth who have run away from home or are experiencing homelessness. Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) is proud to spearhead this campaign and offer resources to support vulnerable youth and their families in our community. National studies indicate that more than 4.2 million young people between the ages of 13 and 25 experience some form of homelessness in the United States each year.

Tahoe Fund matching donations to bring access to all in Tahoe Meadows near Mt. Rose

In Tahoe Meadows, off Mt. Rose Highway, there's a beautiful boardwalk trail that can only be reached by two sets of stairs.

That means those with physical disabilities, families with strollers, or anyone who has difficulty navigating stairs are unable to access the boardwalks and experience the wonders of these meadows.

The Tahoe Fund has partnered with the Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Committee to raise $150,000 to build an accessibility ramp to the boardwalks, but we need your help.

Organizers thank community partners for recent health faire

Barton Health, in partnership with Lake Tahoe Unified School District and El Dorado County, hosted the second annual Community Health Fair event on October 19. The organizers extend a heartfelt ‘thank-you’ to the many community partners who provided health resources and education to over 350 community members in attendance.

LTUSD homeless and foster team holding drive for kids' winter supplies

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Homeless and Foster team is holding an Advocacy Winter Drive for their clients.

Winter is fast approaching and they are seeking all items related to keeping local kids warm and able to play in the snow. They do not need jackets at this time since they are already graciously provided by the local Kiwanis club and are offered to all students.

Turkey Trot Fun Run in South Lake Tahoe

Toys For Tots taking applications for those needing toys this holiday season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Toys For Tots is now accepting applications for toys needed this holiday season in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Organizers will respond within a few days to all requests entered HERE.

Paper applications will also be available at the annual Toys For Toys "Stuff a Truck" event on November 17, 2023, at the TJMaxx/Blue Zone parking lot from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

AARP Tax-Aide Seeking New Volunteers

AARP Tax-Aide in South Lake Tahoe is recruiting new volunteers so we can expand our free tax preparation program next tax season. Two volunteer positions are available: client facilitators, who meet and interview taxpayers when they arrive at the Senior Center; and tax counselors, who complete tax returns after the interview, and submit the return to the IRS for the taxpayer.

Training for both positions is provided - no prior tax experience is necessary!

Tahoe Women's Community Fund looks to add members and sponsors

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF), moving into its ninth year of giving, is looking for new and returning members to join their giving circle. For $125 or more, any community member can join the TWCF and help contribute to the multitude of nonprofits that serve the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

This giving circle is simple...through December 31, they collect memberships. Then, after that date, they total up membership donations, create a grant cycle for nonprofits to apply to, and then members democratically vote on the applications to support.

With the coming of winter, the folks at Heavenly Mountain Resort are working hard to gear up for the upcoming ski season and hoping for lots of snow and great snow conditions on the mountain for this winter’s skiers and snowboarders. October’s Did You Know Campaign: Counterfeit Pills & Fentanyl

This month the Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids (TASK) is sharing facts and information to educate the community about fentanyl and counterfeit pills.  Fake pills or counterfeit prescription pills are purposely made to resemble legitimate medicines but instead are made of illicit fentanyl or an illicit fentanyl analog.

In the wake of the recent terror attack in Israel that saw over 1,000 innocent Jews brutally murdered, Chabad Jewish Center at Lake Tahoe is hosting a Pre-Shabbat unity and prayer rally at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct 13. This event will bring the community together in prayer and will serve as a strong statement of solidarity with the people of Israel amid the ongoing war in Israel. Followed by Kiddush and hot chicken soup.

North and South Lake Tahoe communities to join together in support of the people of Israel

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Temple Bat Yam of South Lake Tahoe and North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation will be joining together over two evenings in support of the people of Israel.

North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation will hold a vigil on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:15 p.m. They are located at 7000 Latone Ave, Tahoe Vista.

Temple Bat Yam will gather on Thursday, October 12 at 6:15 p.m. They are located at 3260 Pioneer Trail.

The community is invited to join them to sing, pray, and be united in strength and hope.

El Dorado Community Foundation announces Amy Pooley as new executive director

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado Community Foundation has announced Amy Pooley as the selection for the incoming executive director for the El Dorado Community Foundation.

Currently serving as the executive director for CASA El Dorado, she will join the Foundation with a proven track record of championing community needs, developing relationships, and making positive impacts in our region.
