Volunteers needed for South Lake Tahoe Challenge Days

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Challenge Day organization will be in South Lake Tahoe next week to conduct three-day-long programs at South Tahoe High School (STHS), and community members are needed to help each day.

TASK (The Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids) has worked with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to bring the life-changing Challenge days to all 9th graders at South Lake Tahoe High School (STHS) for the second year.

North Tahoe Community Alliance selects 17 projects to receive up to $20M in sponsorship and multi-year funding

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tourist Business Improvement District (TBID) covering the north shore of Lake Tahoe continues to yield results that benefit the community, the environment, and the visitor.

Launched in July 2022, an assessment fee was added to all TBID business transactions for those who provide any type of visitor service including food and beverage, and retail. The fee can be paid for by the business, or added to the customer's bill, and is paid by all who use the business, visitor or not. Depending on the zone the business is located in, the fee is one or two percent.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth will resume its B&B 4 Kids (BB4K) weekend food bag program on Friday, September 8. The weekend food bags are distributed every Friday at all five schools in Lake Tahoe Unified School District that serve pre-K through 8th-grade students. This includes Bijou Community School, Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School, Sierra House Elementary, Tahoe Valley Elementary, and South Tahoe Middle School, as well as high school students at South Tahoe High and Mt. Keep Tahoe Maui Ikaika stickers to raise funds for fire victims

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There has always been a strong connection between South Lake Tahoe and Maui residents, and to support Hawaiian friends, a sticker has been created by Kenny Curtzwiler to raise funds for those in need after the deadly fires.

Shawlapalooza to feature local musicians while raising funds for new music school

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On August 14, Heavenly Mountain Resort once again sponsored a Bread & Broth (B&B) Monday Meal thanks to the generous Vail EpicPromise grant funds awarded to Bread & Broth.

“It’s always a pleasure for the Heavenly team to be able to give back to the community through our Monday Meal sponsorships,” said Stefan Watkins.

In addition to serving as Heavenly’s Adopt A Day (AAD) crew member on the 14th, Stefan is also a regular B&B volunteer on the second Monday of each month. So, he has a great deal of experience helping at the Monday dinner service.

American Legion needs a new roof on their South Lake Tahoe building - fundraiser set

Letter: Community supports growing tennis program

Making it the largest tournament in its 39 years, 289 players from seven states recently participated in the annual Hersh Herschman Memorial Tahoe Classic at Zephyr Cove Park. The four-day annual event ended on August 6 bringing even more people to our area for the fun tennis competition.

The tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation (ZCTCF). The money raised from the event, including a silent auction and raffle, will help to continue to provide the only organized recreational tennis, with a growing kids program, on the South Shore.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A retirement bin was placed at Grocery Outlet this week in South Lake Tahoe as a joint project between the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Legion Post 795.

Many people proudly display an American flag at their homes or businesses but what is supposed to be done with the flag when it becomes worn and in poor condition? It should be retired during an official ceremony like the one in South Lake Tahoe at the American Legion's annual Flag Day Ceremony.

Last year's event sold out and included a catered dinner, custom drinks, fun activities, and a special auction, all to support the feeding, care, and medical needs of the hundreds of wild animals and birds that pass through their doors every year.
