In August, Bread & Broth (B&B) was awarded a Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation Grant designed to provide financial resources to continue the organization’s efforts to respond to the issue of food insecurity in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. The awarded $15,000 grant will support two of the organization’s programs, the B&B 4 Kids Weekend Food Bag program and the “Green Goal” project. Since Bread & Broth is an all-volunteer organization, all grant monies will be used to purchase food for program recipients.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Festival of Winter Lights returns to South Lake Tahoe on Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening. It will be held in the parking lot of the Lake Tahoe Historical Society and the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.

This event will feature the museum's annual Holiday in History, Borges winter carriage rides, a lighted outdoor winter market, Santa's house and kids activities, holiday music performances, and hot food and wine.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Six people were recognized as the community's unsung heroes during a recognition ceremony sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe and the South Tahoe Chamber.

The award is named the Bob Baunhauser Excellence in Service Award in recognition of the longtime local man who exemplified service. He selflessly gave his time and resources to others, especially the children of the community, without any expectation of publicity or recognition.

On Monday, September 29, the Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe’s marketing team was on board to help serve the over ninety dinner guests who attended St. Theresa’s Bread & Broth’s (B&B) Monday Meal.

“We are very happy that we had the opportunity to give back to our community during our exciting transition into the Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe,” shared the Golden Nugget marketing team members.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - — South Lake Tahoe’s indoor mini golf course, Flatstick Pub, also known as Tipsy Putt, will be teaming up with the ALS Association to give back to the South Lake Tahoe community. Each Sunday in October, Flatstick Pub will donate $1 for every beer and $1 for every round of mini golf purchased.

Fall has arrived. The aspen leaves are changing and there is a morning chill. The yellow, orange, and red are in the trees and the yellow school buses are back on the roads. It is also a season of planning and change as we prepare for winter, make holiday plans, perhaps a winter trip, and look towards the next year, 2024.

All kids ages 1-10 are invited to join in the free Pumpkin Run on Sunday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. This fun event is sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Marathon and the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe.

The run is located at the finish line of the Lake Tahoe Marathon on Lakeshore Blvd. near The Landing. Distances are age-appropriate.

Participants are encouraged to park at the Golden Nugget and walk down or take the shuttle, or take Lake Link to the event.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. – Sawdust drifts into a small pile as a volunteer cuts a fallen log into six-foot lengths. Around her, a team of five is busy lopping pine boughs and carefully placing timber across a narrow stretch of Saxon Creek in the community of Meyers, mimicking the work of beavers who once lived there. If they’re successful, this “beaver dam analog” will help restore the creek’s natural, meandering course, filter out sediments that degrade Lake Tahoe’s clarity, and invite the beavers to return.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Looking for a fun way to celebrate Oktoberfest and support Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) at the same time? Join them at South of North Brewing Company on October 1 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for lots of fun while supporting the community. There will be many different Oktoberfest 'beuirs" (beers), lots of "das wurstchen" (hot dogs), live music, and fun times.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High Lady Vikings soccer team is holding a fundraiser spaghetti dinner at Bert’s Cafe on Wednesday, September 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and the dinner includes pasta, salad, garlic bread, and a beverage.

Tickets can be purchased at Bert's ahead of the event as well as the night of the dinner.

Stop by and support the team. The team's seniors will be serving dinner.

Bert's is located at 1146 Emerald Bay Rd., South Lake Tahoe.

Ever wonder what life is like for a transgender person? Do you ever hear or see the word pansexual, non-binary, or genderqueer and wonder...what does that mean for a person? Do you hesitate to ask questions with the worry that they might offend someone? Here's your opportunity to overcome that shyness. Come to the Human Library and immerse yourself in a story told by a human book.

The Human Library will be held on October 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Roberta Mason Library at Lake Tahoe Community College.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) distributed $121,250 in funds to 52 area non-profit organizations as a result of the 34th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All kids are invited to the Heavenly Village on Halloween for a fun trick-or-treating event with 50 candy stops, a bounce house and slide, and a $1,000 costume contest.

The Shops at Heavenly Village has partnered with the South Tahoe Chamber to provide the free event. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue with their fire truck and South Lake Tahoe Police Department will also be there to hand out candy and stickers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe office of the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe is hosting a free vaccination and microchip clinic for dogs and cats for residents of the South Shore from South Lake Tahoe to Glenbrook.

The free microchips are made possible by a grant from the Latrobe Fund.

All dogs must be on a leash at all times, and cats kept in their carriers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal is currently being enjoyed by over eighty community members who often express their thanks and gratitude for the wonderful meals that are served every week. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Area first responders were honored during the South Lake Tahoe 9/11 ceremony held at the American Legion Monday.

"This is our opportunity to say 'thank you' as a united community," said the American Legion Post Commander Tom Millham. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids (TASK) is launching a "Did You Know?" campaign to bring awareness and education around many topics affecting youth and their families. TASK not only works on reducing access to drugs and alcohol by youth and kids in the community but also brings and supports programs in the schools that teach healthy decision-making, positive communication skills, ways to address stress and anxiety, and other life skills that support thriving youth. TASK will be launching a new theme each month to educate the community.
