Kids will be able to experience South Lake Tahoe from the air during the 25th annual Young Eagles Rally at the Lake Tahoe Airport on September 23, 2017 starting at 8:00 a.m.
The Truckee Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will be hosting the event which provides free airplane rides to youth ages 8 to 17 years old.
Volunteer pilots introduce kids to aviation by giving them the free airplane rides, over 40,000 nationwide. Since EAA started in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe, 3400 youth have been able to get into the air.

California Senator Diane Feinstein is hosting the 21st annual Lake Tahoe Summit on Tuesday, August 22 at Vahalla in the Tallac Historic Site from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The theme for the day is "2017- A Pivotal Point for the Future of Lake Tahoe.”
The event will examine successful restoration projects and ways to address new challenges facing the lake. A key focus will be combating the effects of climate change in the Lake Tahoe basin.

Watson told South Tahoe Now he has been hired as the City Attorney in Tracy, California, a job that will get him closer to family.
“I am proud of what the City Attorney’s office has accomplished during my time here," said Watson. "I appreciate the Council and Staff’s dedication to this community and want Tahoe to thrive and prosper.”

The show features Buffalo Bill Cody, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, the Pony Express, The Mayfield Gang and the 1st Nevada Cavalry. The Douglas High School Marching Band and western singer-songwriter Krista Jenkins return for a second year to draw the audience back in time to the frontier of the American West.

City working with promoter to keep SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

The answer is "yes" according to the City Council, but exactly how the future working and financial relationships between the City and SnowGlobe will look still needs to be worked out.
Chad Donnelly, founder of SnowGlobe, made a presentation at the SLT City Council meeting Tuesday, outlining a plan to keep the annual December 29-31 music festival in the community.
60th free concert this week at Live at Lakeview

On August 17, the signature concert series will have Sol Peligro and Boca do Rio on the beach at Lakeview Commons starting at 4:30 p.m.
The popular series is presented by Toyota USA, the City of South Lake Tahoe and On Course Events and goes until the end of August.

Governor Brown signed AB1191 on July 24, 2017, defining who could serve on the CTC after the use of elected officials was questioned earlier this year.

Douglas County narrows search down to two for Asst. County Manager position
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/14/2017 - 9:58pmThe search for a new Assistant County Manager for Douglas County is almost over as Bradley Hurley and Philip Ritger have been chosen as the final two candidates. The public is invited to meet the two on August 21 from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn.
Last Monday, panel interviews were conducted for eight applicants, and from that group Hurley and Ritger were chosen to be interviewed by County Manager Larry Werner.
Ritger is the current Town of Genoa Manager and Hurley the Deputy Communications Officer with the Department of Defense. Both are residents of Douglas County.

SnowGlobe wants 10 year extension, say they contribute $14M to local economy annually

During Tuesday, August 15th's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoters will make a presentation to the City outlining their plans, showing how they think they can become the largest funding source of South Lake Tahoe projects and non-profits.
Public's hep sought in Incline Village burglary/credit card fraud case

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the pair described as a six-foot tall male, 190-210 pounds with short, buzzed dark hair and a goatee, and an adult female, approximately five-and-a-half feet tall, 180-200 pounds with dark hair reaching to mid-back.

Citing no confidence in the buyer's ability to put a deal that can close together, the trustees voted unanimously to take the steps needed to put the old middle school back on the market.
"I think the School District made a poor decision today," Patrick Taylor of Lake Parkway LLC told South Tahoe Now. "They are very unrealistic."

During the eclipse from 9:02 a.m. to 11:54 a.m., the moon will obscure much of the solar rays directly affecting the output of both large scale photovoltaic (PV) electric power plants and rooftop solar. A loss of 4,194 megawatts(MW) of California large scale solar electricity is expected.

Detwiler Fire cause released; Over 81k acres burned and now 97% contained

21 other homes and buildings were damaged.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) investigators said specifics are still under investigation.
The Detwiler Fire has burned 81,826 acres and was 97 percent contained as of 7:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5.

Update 2:55 p.m.: At approximately 10:15 am on Thursday, August 3rd, 2017, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were called to a report of two skydivers down near the Minden Airport. Upon arrival, deputies found two deceased skydivers on the ground outside the perimeter of the airport.

August 12, 2017 - 10:00am Author David C. Antonucci will speak on his book Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 am.
In 1861, Samuel Clemens, the man who would become Mark Twain, hiked to Lake Tahoe to stake a claim for a timber ranch. He spent many blissful days on the Lake but carelessly allowed his campfire to escape, creating a spectacular wildfire. He later wrote about his experiences in his 1872 memoir, Roughing It.

Chautauqua of Major Ormsby and Lucky Bill at Dangberg Historic Park

August 9, 2017 - 6:30pm In a one man show, Chris Bayer will portray both Major William Ormsby and Lucky Bill Thorington in “The Major and the Gambler” at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 9, at 6:30 pm.
Major William Mathew Ormsby was born in 1814 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Ormsby was a teamster, failed horse dealer, citizen at large, visionary and one of the most important figures in the founding of Nevada and its capitol, Carson City. He was killed in 1860 during the Pyramid Lake Paiute uprising.

After a popular, and sold out, inaugural event in 2016, TEDx South Lake Tahoe is coming back and promises to be bigger and better.
The TEDx license only allowed 100 attendees at The Loft during its first year, but after a trip the New York and a TEDx main event, local organizers were able to qualify South Lake Tahoe for a larger audience in 2017.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office takes to the airwaves with KOH 780AM

The next event is a live-remote broadcast on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sanchez Ranch Meat Company located in Minden, Nev. Sanchez will be hosting guest Undersheriff Paul Howell. The public is invited ask questions by calling (775) 852-TALK (8255) or by coming by Sanchez Meat and Deli.
California Energy Standards residential review course for contractors

The City of South Lake Tahoe's Development Services Department invites contractors to attend the 2016 Building Energy Efficiency Standards on Friday, August 25th, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
The course is being offered free of charge.
Man drowns at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/30/2017 - 4:04pmA man drowned at Sand Harbor Saturday evening according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO).
The man was swimming near the beach at approximately 5:00 p.m. when he drowned on July 29, 2017, according to Bob Harmon, spokesman for WCSO. Lifeguards from San Harbor got the victim to the shore and starting life-saving measures. The man was taken to an Incline Village hospital where he later died.
Harmon said bystanders estimated the victim to be in his late 20s.
Author to speak on Nevada State Children's Home at Dangberg Historic Park

August 6, 2017 - 10:00am Author Bonnie Boice Nishikawa will speak on her book Nevada State Orphans/Children’s Home: My Life as a “Home” Kid at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, August 6, at 10:00 am.
The Nevada State Orphans Home at Carson City was authorized in 1869 by the legislature with construction beginning the same year. The first child was admitted in October of 1870.
