Tahoe Chamber 2020 Business Expo - Canceled

The 2020 Expo has been canceled. They plan on returning in March 2021.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The annual Tahoe Chamber Business EXPO will be held on Friday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harrah's Tahoe. It was originally scheduled for March 27 but postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

Strong early voting in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County voters have historically been a mail-in ballot voter, with about 80 percent of those registered putting their ballot in the mail.

So far, over 34,000 ballots have been received by the El Dorado County Elections Office and tabulated. This is about 35 percent of the 124,353 registered and eligible to cast their vote in this primary election.

Election update: Some El Dorado County ballots can still be changed

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - With three candidates dropping out of the presidential race just before Super Tuesday, many wonder what happens to their vote if it were for Styer, Buttigieg or Klobuchar.

If a ballot was mailed in and counted, whomever one voted for must remain the same.

Welcome to the ninth year summary of the SnowGlobe Music Festival. This is the first year the TRPA has done any monitoring and the event continues to violate TRPA’s pre-existing rules. We can add air pollution to the list of accomplishments for this event given the recent successful lawsuit by the Center for Environmental Health (CEH). Onsite inspections for building and fire continue to find violations (they have had violations every year) and the fireworks were moved to an open undeveloped area in the forest of Bijou Park this year.

With the March primaries just weeks away, voters will be considering not only their choices on the ballot but will also need to consider how they will cast their votes in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County.

With poor voter turnout, especially in South Lake Tahoe, and more registered voters choosing to vote by mail, the polling places set up on election days were not frequently used.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Motorists can expect the eastbound and westbound turn lanes from U.S. Highway 50 at Bedford Avenue and the eastbound off-ramps at Broadway and Schnell School Road to be closed from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday for the annual Placerville Christmas Parade.

South Lake Tahoe kick-off meeting for City’s new Climate Action Plan

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to a meeting on the City’s first-ever Climate Action Plan on Wednesday, December 11 from 6:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at the airport.

In April 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council signed a proclamation to move the City’s entire electrical grid to clean energy by 2032, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent below baseline by 2040.

Services set for slain El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Ishmael

PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Funeral services for El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brian Ishmael will be held on Tuesday, November 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Bayside Church Adventure, located at 6401 Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville, CA.

Achievable housing project planned for North Lake Tahoe

Placer County has purchased the 11-acre Nahas property near Tahoe City for $3.42 million. They are working with housing developer partner Related-Pacific Companies to develop conceptual options for a potential mixed-use commercial and achievable housing project on the site.

While the purchase represents a step forward in bringing more achievable housing to North Lake Tahoe, development concepts for the site are still in early stages and no project proposal has yet been brought forward for formal consideration or approval.

Lake Tahoe and Sierra roadwork for September 8-14

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Scheduled roadwork around the Lake Tahoe Basin is still in full swing before the winter hiatus.

For those wondering about the old Caltrans traffic camera at the Y: it is being replaced and when received there will be a lane closure coordinated for installation.

The camera at the new roundabout in Meyers can be rotated to analyze traffic needs and will not be aimed just at the roundabout for the time being.

Fatal crash involving gas tanker in South Lake Tahoe

Update 10:00 p.m. - One person has died after the tanker truck they were driving on Highway 50 just west of South Lake Tahoe collided with the Upper Truckee River bridge near Elks Club Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 the driver of a Toyota Prius was making a right turn from Elks Club Road onto Highway 50 when he pulled out in front of the eastbound truck. According to CHP South Lake Tahoe Commander Terry Lowther, the driver of the Pruis violated the truck driver's right-of-way.

The buzz about yellowjacket season in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Yellowjackets - they seem to appear whenever you sit down for your picnic lunch or other outside dining enjoyment in Lake Tahoe, especially in the months of July and August.

While the uninvited guests have some redeeming qualities they are predatory, sting pets and humans and are capable of stinging multiple times. Their aggressive behavior ruins many the outside activity. Yellowjackets are actually wasps but shouldn't be confused with other wasps, such as hornets and paper wasps. They are often mistakenly called "bees" (as in "meat bees").

Thousands of Burners head through Reno-Tahoe International Airport on way to Black Rock Desert

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) was a very busy place Monday as most of the 20,000 people expected to fly in for Burning Man 2019 passed through on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Attendees to the annual event (known as Burners) were greeted at the airport RNO's therapy dogs, Paws for Passengers, who wore costumes for the day to bring smiles to arriving Burners.

Welcome activities are taking place all week at Air Playa Info, a welcome area staffed by local volunteers dedicated to assisting Burners.

$100K from 30th annual American Century Championship to be given to local nonprofits

STATELINE, Nev. - The 30th annual American Century Championship has gone into the record books as one of the biggest and best golf events in Lake Tahoe history. There was an attendance record of 60,550, an economic impact estimated at $30 million for the Lake Tahoe Basin, and now an additional $100,000 will be given away to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Township non-profits.

Letter: CIty of South Lake Tahoe takes on renewable energy leadership

South Lake Tahoe’s renewable energy leadership is providing the opportunity for the installation of substantive solar projects on the rooftops and properties of public buildings throughout the Sierra. Carol Chaplin, the executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority since 2008, has been named the new chairperson of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The nine-member board oversees both the Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.
