Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe hosts student art show

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emerging young Van Goghs and Picassos were on display this week at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT). Parents, family, and friends toured the displays Thursday afternoon.

The club's Art Director Gina Stowell has been working with the students in several mediums including pastels and charcoal, watercolor tempura, monochromatic, printmaking, acrylics, mixed media collages, and multi-colored drawings. All were hung around the room for the art show as was a special blacklight "Glow Gallery."

The artists on display were ages 6-15.

The Tahoe Art League 13th annual Studio Tour will be held July 26, 27, 28 and August 2, 3, 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Visit 33 artists located among 17 studios from Round Hill in Nevada to Christmas Valley in California. Brochures and maps are available at many venues around town and online at talart.org. The art league has been a vital part of the Tahoe art scene since its formation in 1964 and has offices and a newly renovated gallery at 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.

LTUSD and LTCC Gift of Literacy program brings joy of reading to local first graders

2018 Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival schedule announced

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The coming months at the historic Valhalla Grand Hall, Grand Lawn and Boathouse Theater will be busy with a full slate of activities planned for the 2018 Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival.

The festival is Valhalla Tahoe’s flagship event, a unique celebration of music, theatre and the visual arts. The festival is set against the magnificent backdrop of Lake Tahoe and the Tallac Historic Site. Looking forward to its 34th year, it is produced by Valhalla Tahoe.

The Festival begins in mid-June with events and activities that continue throughout August.

David Mori - Make Tahoe quantum

David Mori is a South Lake Tahoe Artist who brings his macro style of photography to the latest installment of Make Tahoe quantum. The beauty of the forms that we see almost every day in local nature are rendered in black and white film and digital photography. Mori is also an accomplished culinary artist whose career has taken him as far as Antartica. Mori’s imagery incorporates his focus on both textures and the abstract patterns and compositions that he sees through the lens, plating Tahoe’s natural forms for the viewer to savor.

Guide to Nevada Day activities in Carson City

Labor Day weekend in Lake Tahoe full of activities to replace fireworks

With the cancellation of the 19-year long tradition of fireworks over Labor Day in South Lake Tahoe due to budget constraints, the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority and other local businesses have pulled together to present a full menu of things to do on the South Shore from a laser light show to concerts and a carnival.

This month-long art show is always a hit. Approximately 400 works of student art will be on display from digital art and printmaking to sculpture, a culmination of students' creations over the past year.

Two day celebration of art, food and wine in South Lake Tahoe

The Beach Retreat and Lodge will be the spot this weekend for the inaugural "Taste of Tahoe." The two-day event, May 20-21, will include an art show, wine tasting and food pairing.

On Friday, May 20, the event is kicked off with the Art Show and Wine Tasting event in the hotel's new conference center and it will wrap up with a Pairings Dinner on Saturday created by their chef, Garrett Florea, and Crystal Basin Winery.

There will be a special art show at the Pacific Crest Gallery in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, May 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students from South Tahoe High have been creating art for the Lake Tahoe Humane Society's Art for Animals program, one which inspires kindness to all animals.

The student art work will be up for sale, with proceeds going to the students and the Humane Society.

Refreshments will be served.
