Whittell Winter Sports Burger Night Fundraiser

February 7, 2018 - 3:00pm The community is invited to head out to the Red Hut Cafe in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday for the Whittell High School Winter Sports Burger Night fundraiser. All proceeds go to support the Whittell Basketball Team, Ski Team and cheerleaders.
The Red Hut Cafe Burger Night Fundraiser is on February 7 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For just a $10 donation you get a burger, homemade chips and a fountain soda. The Red Hut donates 100 percent of the proceeds to the school.

Signing Day for South Tahoe High athlete

The six-foot tall volleyball player from South Lake Tahoe is now headed to the next level and will be playing for Sonoma State next fall.
"I'm so excited," said McKenna as she signed a letter of intent to be the newest Sonoma Seawolf at the high school Thursday. Besides playing volleyball she will also be studying nursing.
McKenna started playing volleyball in seventh grade and hasn't looked back.
New Strength and Conditioning room at South Tahoe High already big success
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/06/2017 - 11:16pmThe South Lake Tahoe community came together early in 2016 to raise money for a new Strength and Conditioning room at South Tahoe High, and the investment is already paying huge dividends.
"This room is changing the culture of our school," said STHS Football Coach Louis Franklin. "Having a room like this allows each kid to reach their genetic potential."
Student athletes are getting stronger, injuries are down and they are able to maximize their potential on the court, the field, the pool, or whatever the venue is for their sport. Cheerleaders and dancers also utilize the facility.

She was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1939 to Henry Mock of Waipio Valley, Hawaii and Mary Jane Brashier Mock Shirley of Pennsylvania. She had one sister Jane Rowe Ronca who lives in Arizona.
South Tahoe Vikings win a thriller after double overtime
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/06/2016 - 7:08pmThere was excitement on the hill Saturday afternoon as the South Tahoe Vikings beat the Sparks Railroaders in double-overtime, 57-55.
Tommy Cefalu hit two free throws as time ran out to seal the deal for South Tahoe.
It was "Senior Day," a day where all senior basketball players, cheerleaders and dance team members were honored in a pre-game ceremony.

South Tahoe High Vikings win first football game of the season
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/25/2015 - 10:46pmThe South Tahoe High Vikings Football team hosted the Lowery Buckaroos on Friday night in a game that earn the hometown boys their first win of the season.
After close losses to El Dorado (35-32) and Spring Creek (33-27), the Vikings were ready for a win.
Quarterback Tommy Cefalu threw one touchdown pass to Darren Jackson, followed by one on the ground for Jackson and two more rushing touchdowns by Noah Jackson.
The final: 27-0.
Next up for the Vikings: Next week's homecoming game against Wooster at STHS Friday night. Varsity starts at 7 p.m., JV at 4:30 p.m.
South Tahoe High cheer and dance team clinic starts Monday; Tryouts June 2

South Tahoe High Cheer and Dance teams bring home trophies

South Tahoe High's cheerleaders brought home four trophies from the Rail City Spirit Invitational on Saturday, February 14. They won first in Large Varsity Show Cheer, first in Varsity Group Stunt (for their team #2) and second for JV Show Cheer. The Varsity girls also won the trophy for best all-around by earning the most points during the competition.
The Dance Team made their first trip to a competition and took second place for Open Dance.
South Tahoe High Cheer Team wins first place at Davis competition

The STHS girls won the "Varsity Show Cheer Advanced" category.
Cheer and dance teams from Northern California competed.
3rd Annual Holiday Parade made its way through town
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/14/2014 - 12:38amEverything from decorated cars full of STHS Cheerleaders to a tow truck and dump truck decked out in holiday cheer were part of the Third Annual Holiday Parade in South Lake Tahoe.
31 entries made up the parade which started at the top of Ski Run Blvd and went through town, ending in the parking lot of TJ Maxx.
"This was a really fun even for the whole community," said JoAnn Conner, organizer of the event (and City Councilwoman). "This parade raised a lot of money for Christmas Cheer as well as bringing in a lot of toys. Thank you to everyone who made all of this a success."
Seven South Lake Tahoe City Council candidates vying for votes at forum Wednesday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/10/2014 - 11:41pmThe seven candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council were at Wednesday nights Candidate Forum at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. The Tahoe Chamber and Tahoe Daily Tribune hosted the evening which had Rabbi Evon Yakar moderating the questions and answers.
About 100 people showed up to listen to panel who were given questions prepared by the chamber's new political committee as well as those asked by the audience. The questions were asked of different candidates so not everyone was asked the same one.
South Tahoe High Hoops Report
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/09/2014 - 10:12pmIn front of family and friends, the South Tahoe High seniors took to the court for their final regular season home game on Saturday against Fernley High. It what is referred to as the "Senior Game," a special ceremony honored the senior class members of the boys and girls basketball teams, cheerleaders and dance team members.
It was a close game for all 4 quarters of the boys' varsity game, with Fernley holding onto a 65-58 win over South Tahoe.
The Varsity Girls' team, led by 13 points scored by Kayla Griffis, beat Fernley by a score of 55-37.
Restrictions Put on South Tahoe High Basketball Game Saturday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/07/2014 - 6:59pmDue to an incident which happened at Tuesday night's South Tahoe High School basketball game, school officials have put restrictions on Saturday's game against Fernley.
Emails and phone calls went out to the parents of all STHS students, stating that "a large number of students violated the expected behaviors of positive team support, being welcoming hosts, and upholding the Viking Goals."
Because of this, school administration will only allow students to attend "and remain seated with their parents" at the game.
South Tahoe High Homecoming Parade
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/29/2013 - 10:08amMore than 2 dozen decorated cars and trucks carrying South Tahoe High students lined Highway 50 on Saturday morning for the Annual South Tahoe High Homecoming Parade. The school's Pep Band, Lady Vikings, Football and Soccer teams, cheerleaders, Homecoming Prince and Princesses, alumni and classes as well as Pop Warner cheerleaders and players joined in the fun. Candy was tossed from passing cars and there were lots of cheering parents and residents along the parade route.

A week of homecoming festivities at South Tahoe High begins on Saturday, September 28 with the annual parade through town. At 10 am the parade will begin at the LTUSD bus garage on Al Tahoe Boulevard and head along Highway 50 to the high school.
Trucks full of students, cars carrying alumni, cheerleaders, teams, the pep band and more will join the parade route.
The South Tahoe High Alumni Foundation has planned the event which will also include members of the classes of 1963, 1964, 1966, 1968 and 1973.

Carson High Booster Club receives a “boost” from the Carson Nugget
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 08/21/2012 - 8:37amCarson City, NV—Carson High School football players will receive new helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment this year thanks to the generosity shown during the annual “Kick-Off Dinner” recently held at Carson Nugget.
At the start of each season, the Carson High Athletic Department and the Carson High Football Boosters raise money to support the program. This year the Carson Nugget provided the venue and split the revenue generated through the sale of alcohol to help the group generate income.
