Friday is South Lake Tahoe Community Tree Lighting

South Lake Tahoe knows how to throw a holiday bash and the one planned this Friday is sure to bring smiles, thrills and some welcome bliss after the weekend's series of storms.
The annual Community Winter Tree Lighting will be Friday at the California Visitor Center, 3066 Lake Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe and runs from 5 to 7 p.m.

Heavenly Holidays at Heavenly Village Lake Tahoe

Celebrate the 13 days of Christmas at Heavenly Holidays, a two-week festival for the whole family at the Heavenly Village featuring professional ice skating shows, ice sculptors, carolers, local artists and a 16-foot snow globe where kids can get their photos taken with Santa. It all starts December 15 and culminates Dec. 31 with A Heavenly New Year’s Celebration including ice sculptors, live music, fire dancers and a 9:00pm ball drop and fireworks show.

Alpine Animal Hospital is proud to announce that we are continuing our 22-year tradition of offering the “Holiday Cheer Nail Trim Promotion” to benefit Christmas Cheer through the month of December.

We have raised over $29,000 and lots of canned food in the past years for Christmas Cheer. Last year alone, our “Holiday Cheer Nail Trim Promotion” raised over $2,000.

Twenty-five local vendors and artists will be offering a varied assortment of hand-made and other special items for purchase. The 22nd annual Lake Tahoe Toy Run is Oct. 6. All proceeds benefit Christmas Cheer. Line up at Horizon casino in Stateline at 10am Saturday, October 6th and departure at noon to Brother’s Bar & Grill at 888 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe. Entry fee is one new toy.

Wilderness area proposal would harm Lake Tahoe economy says public Pro-Access group

With the comment period ending Thursday, August 30, the newly formed Sierra Pro-Access Group is asking outdoor enthusiasts to write against a U.S. Forest Service alternative plan that proposes creating new wilderness areas that would shut down some of the locals' most beloved recreation areas on public land around the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The economic effects on the Lake Tahoe Basin could be devastating, the group says, shutting out what clearly has been public access for not only snowmobiles, but mountain bikes, dirt bikes, and 4-wheel ATVs.

Council to expand use of sandwich boards

The South Lake Tahoe City Council is set to allow businesses to increase their use of sandwich boards for advertising following a vote this week.
The council gave initial approval to changes to the city's sign ordinance that will allow a business to display one sandwich board — folding signs that are typically are set in front of a business — on holidays, weekends and the period between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

Early morning structure fire knocked down

A deck attached to a home caught fire in the 2400 block of Blitzen Road near Shakori Drive in the Christmas Valley area early Thursday morning. The fire was reported at around 2:45 a.m. Firefighters on the scene reported that flames moved from the deck to a small space in the attic.
