Meyers holiday tree lighting ceremony will be powered by pedals

Event Date:
December 9, 2012 - 6:00pm

The Meyers Community Alliance will hold its second annual Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Divided Sky/Downtown Café parking lot. This year's event will literally be engineered and powered by the people.
Elevate Fitness of South Lake Tahoe, the only carbon-neutral gym in the U.S., will lead the first pedal-powered holiday tree lighting event in Lake Tahoe, perhaps the first ever in the United States. Volunteers will pedal a rack of bicycles that will light up the 100-foot Jeffrey pine with over 6,500 LED lights. The carbon-light approach to illuminatingthe holiday tree is in part to promote the Meyers' vision and efforts to become asustainable, healthy community for residence and visitors.
The Christmas fire truck and Santa, via the Cal Star helicopter, will return and this year music will be added to the mix. Complimentary popcorn and hot cocoa will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
