Grand Opening For New Affordable Housing Complex in South Lake Tahoe

What could be the last of its kind for some time in South Lake Tahoe, The Aspens at South Lake is celebrating its completion with a grand opening on Thursday, February 27.
The new affordable housing complex is 48 units and cost about $9.5 million to build. 47 of the units will be assisted units which are based on income needs and will likely be filled by service industry employees and single parents with entry level jobs. The Aspens bring the total number of affordable housing units in South Lake Tahoe to 350.

Free Bus Rides in South Lake Tahoe Until January 5
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/26/2013 - 12:11amPassengers will be riding Blue GO buses along Highway 50 for free through January 5. Routes 50 and 53 run from the "Y" to the Kahle Community Center from 5 am to 11 pm.
Tahoe Transportation District is offering the free rides to keep cars off the road during the higher traffic holiday season and to show riders how they can help the South Lake Tahoe air quality and to see how convenient, comfortable and affordable the bus system is.

American Century Golf Championship Distributes Over $145,000 to Local Non-Profits

Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker”, PEANUTCRACKER is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet. Bena who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

Halloween Fun in South Lake Tahoe Starts This Weekend

Halloween Dance with the Tahoe Dance Band - at the Senior Center on Friday, October 25. The 17 piece dance band will perform big band music, food, drink, costume prizes. 7:30 - 10 pm. $10.

Youth Theatre Carson City is excited to announce our upcoming production of "Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp," a magical adaptation of the classic tale, Friday through Sunday Jan. 11-13 at the Carson City Community Center and Jan. 18 at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City.

Lake Tahoe voters living in Douglas County can cast their votes at the county's Stateline Kahle Community Center offices at 175 Hwy 50. According to the Douglas County Clerk, early voting at Stateline will continue today to 4 p.m. again on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

As demand soars, Christmas Cheer makes plea for help
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 2:22pmThe Great Recession continues to rear its head here at home, with demands on social services soaring and a genuine fear that South Shore’s food bank won’t be able to provide Christmas dinner for a record number of families in need.
For 30 years, the Christmas Cheer food bank has helped families celebrate Christmas with a traditional dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. However, with 800 families expected to be on the list of those to receive a dinner, the charity has only 75 donated turkeys and five hams to give and organizers say they are beyond being nervous.

“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”
