Tahoe Douglas Rotary builds kiosks at local parks
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 9:37amMembers of the 60 member strong Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently completed two kiosks for the public to use in the South Lake Tahoe area. The first one is located at Kahle Community Park and the second one is at the new Van Sickle Bi-State Park. The kiosks are now used to hold information, including maps of trails and topography as well as pictures and events. The club took on the projects as part of the worldwide volunteer work day.

The first bout featured Tahoe's Green Team up against The North Bay Bruisers from Sonoma County. Although the Tahoe Green Team battled through the Bruisers' great defensive plays and scoring jammers, it wasn’t enough as the Bruisers won with a final score of 213 to 79.

As you may know, sugar pines and other white pines are plagued by a non-native invasive pathogen. White pine blister rust kills about 90 percent of sugar pines it infects. Scientists and restoration managers have agreed that the only effective restoration strategy is to identify seed trees resistant to the rust and plant their progeny. That is exactly what the Sugar Pine Foundation does and you can help too. Last fall, a volunteer described planting sugar pines as “creating life in our neck of the woods.”
Two percent TOT funds Tahoe City project; future money for Kings Beach
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 1:04pmThe existing 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax, which is up for renewal on the June 5, 2012 ballot, has funded a number of North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services since voters first authorized it in 1996.
The renewal, called Measure F, is not a tax increase and, if passed, would continue to be paid by lodging guests only via the TOT bed tax when they spend the night in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe residents would not be taxed under Measure F.

In its second go-around against Merced, the Tahoe Derby Dames charged the green light and on St. Patrick's Day beat the Rollin' Roulettes on their home turf with a final score of 169-129.
