SnowGlobe two days in: 52 arrests and six noise complaints

With crowds approaching 14,000 nightly, one would expect some complaints and arrests. SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe had both during the first two nights.

On Monday, the first night of the techno-music concert there were 17 arrests for miscellaneous alcohol related violations, mainly minors in possession of alcohol or providing alcohol to a minor. There was one arrest for selling drugs and two noise complaints phoned into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's dispatch.

High energy at SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

There is so much more to SnowGlobe that the beat of the bass heard echoing through the trees in your neighborhood. It is much more than a very large group of young people turning out for a techno concert outdoors.

It is an experience.

I am a member of the "over 50" crowd so the music featured at SnowGlobe is not something I know much about so I went into SnowGlobe to see what it's all about.

Donation of winter hats, scarves and gloves needed at SnowGlobe

Freezing temperatures and snow are common for Lake Tahoe, but for those people not used to the elements they can cause problems including frostbite or even death.

Not wanting anyone to suffer and booth at Snow Globe is giving out gloves and scarves to anyone that needs protection from the weather. Nick and Kadi Alfield had what they thought to be plenty of outer gear to give away at their booth, Lighthouse, inside SnowGlobe. But that turned out to be not the case as their whole supply was given away on the opening night of the three day concert.

Some noise complaints but sound levels on target for SnowGlobe

Throngs of people were seen throughout South Lake Tahoe Monday afternoon and evening as they made their way to Lake Tahoe Community College and the 2014 SnowGlobe. By 8 p.m., 12,000 people were already at the concert. Many walked, parked nearby or took advantage of the shuttle busses provided by the event planners and the City.

"They have done a good job on signs, parking shuttles, sound and security," said South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry of the event planners. "Sound levels have been on target and below."

SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared for very cold temperatures

Cold, Cold, Cold. That is the forecast for South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday night and SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared.

A cold front heading to the Sierra on Monday is expected to bring with it 1" to 3" of snow on Tuesday, below normal temperatures and winds at 16 mph with local gusts up to 38 mph. The higher peaks will see winds up to 80 mph.

SnowGlobe attendees will need to be prepared for very cold temps since the high on Tuesday will max out at 24 and the low of 10 will feel more like -7 with the wind chill.

Monday's schedule for South Lake Tahoe's SnowGlobe

You've heard about it for months, the preparations for it are wrapping up and the crowds are here to see it.

What is "it"? SnowGlobe 2014 is in South Lake Tahoe and the word has spread. While in the Bay Area Sunday, SnowGlobe was the lead story on my favorite newstalk radio, KCBS.
