El Dorado County is holding a day of public meetings to gather input for broadband planning and improvement on Thursday, January 18 at the Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe.
The County is working with consulting firm NEO Connect to conduct a Broadband Feasibility Study to evaluate current broadband resources and identify options for improving connectivity and expanding broadband across the County.

First peek into Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:00amThe City of South Lake Tahoe is creating a new design of Sierra Boulevard that will introduce Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size and lighted sidewalks. Called the Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project, work is expected to get underway on the .6 mile stretch of road in the summer of 2018, but not everyone is happy about it.
At the first of two community information meetings on Thursday night, City and NCE representatives gave an overview of the planned project, had a question and answer period and shared preliminary designs of Sierra Blvd.

Upper Truckee River channel project close to completion
Submitted by admin on Fri, 09/30/2016 - 10:30pmA major restoration project of the Upper Truckee River channel and surrounding meadows is about to be completed, three years and $7 million later. Known as Reach 5, the U.S. Forest Service project is improving the river channel stability and aquatic habitat along 1.2 miles of the river adjacent to the Lake Tahoe Airport.
Another goal of the project is to restore surface and subsurface channel connectivity to 120 acres of floodplain, increasing deposition of fine sediments and nutrient uptake on the floodplains as well as raising the ground water levels in the meadow.

The Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program (formerly known as Section 8) is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and provides rental assistance to income qualified individuals and families. Few people living in Nevada today know that Baby Face Nelson, whose given name was Lester Gillis, spent a great deal of time in Nevada. He was avoiding the heat from authorities in the Midwest. In Reno, he was afforded protection from arrest and incarceration because of his connections to Bill Graham and James McKay. Their political and business connections covered almost the entire state.

The unexpected death caught everyone by surprise from family and friends to those she served in Alpine County through her position as the non-profit agency's coordinator.
"We were totally shocked," LVF Executive Director Jane Flavin said of Kline's passing.

Blue Go out, TTD in, as operations change July 1

42 buses make up the local system which have more than 800,000 trips annually on their routes which cover both sides of the state line including commuter bus service from the lake to Carson City and the Carson Valley.

June 6, 2016: The Sagehen Fire, north of Truckee, broke out and was quickly extinguished by the USFS, Northstar and Truckee Fire Departments.
June 9, 2016: The Truckee Meadows Fire Department quickly put out the Patrick Fire off Interstate 80, near Reno.

"I never thought it'd happen," Krolick said of her being selected. "It's right up my alley and I am so excited to go back to Washington."
The Whittell High School senior has worked in Washington, D.C. twice, once as page for Senator Reid in 2014, and as Senator Heller's intern in 2015.

“We have special programs and services for youth ages 16 to 24,” said Jenny Wilson, Program Supervisor with Connections - One Stop. “We are especially looking to assist youth ages 16 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in school.” Through the youth program, unemployed and underemployed youth can receive help with job searches and placement, paid on-the-job training, money for vocational or technical school tuition and more.

Tahoe awarded millions for new bike and pedestrian projects
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/23/2015 - 8:42amThe California Transportation Commission announced this week that it will award nearly $9 million in Active Transportation Program (ATP) grant funding to help complete three major bike and pedestrian projects in the City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City.
Members of the Lake Tahoe Bikeway Partnership applied for the grants. The partnership formed several years ago to secure funding for critical trail segments to improve bicyclist and pedestrian safety and complete the Lake Tahoe Bikeway, a comprehensive multi-use trail network for the Lake Tahoe Region.

County offering paid tuition for professional truck driving school

El Dorado County Connections - One Stop has announced that funds are now available through the Federal Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) to pay for truck driving school tuition. Any unemployed resident of El Dorado County over the age of 23 with a clean driving record is eligible. There is no income restriction.

During Wednesday's Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's Governing Board meeting, the two South Shore women were given the Lake Spirit award along with a family and person from the North Shore. The award has been given to "real people making real progress" at restoring Lake Tahoe since 2011.
Lake Tahoe Summit to focus on building resilient communities
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/12/2015 - 7:56amThe Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Sustainable Communities Program are hosting the Tahoe Region’s first-ever sustainability summit June 22-23 at The Hyatt in Incline Village.
Called Connections 2015, the summit is all about building more resilient and sustainable communities by strengthening mountain-urban partnerships, bringing together people and organizations from all over California, Nevada, and the American West.
