The dam gates are open and the river is flowing, and rafting along North Lake Tahoe’s scenic Truckee River is now open.

Tahoe City-based Truckee River Rafting opened Tuesday, June 12. Truckee River Raft Company, also in Tahoe City, opens today, Thursday, June 14. The companies offer self-guided, five-mile floats down the Truckee River.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will be getting dirty with this month’s community beautification project to help re-build trails in conjunction with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, June 23 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Golden Bear Events presents the inaugural 4th of July Parade in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to noon down Highway 50.
This event is sponsored by the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, KTHO Radio 590 am and 96.1 fm and the City of South Lake Tahoe. Staging will be at Stateline Ave., then proceed down Hwy 50 to Rufus Allen Blvd.
The parade will culminate in the back of the parking lot at the Recreation Complex at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. Bring out the family to line the highway and watch or meet at the Recreation Complex for the celebration from noon to 3 p.m.

The 2nd Annual Adventure Sports Week Tahoe, scheduled for Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 24, will host two stand up paddle boarding events in addition to its other outdoor sporting competitions, clinics taught by professionals, live musical concerts and family-friendly activities.

Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe has named James Grant as its director of Mountain Operations. Grant was promoted from his role as director of Lift Operations. Meanwhile, Heavenly’s director of Snow Surfaces, Jim Larmore, has been named the new director of Mountain Operations at Northstar California Resort.

Barton Foundation’s annual Camp Sunrise, a bereavement camp designed for children ages 7 through 14, will be held June 17-19 at the Galilee Camp & Conference Center in Glenbrook, Nevada. The camp is founded on the understanding that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a safe, supportive and understanding environment. Funded by Barton Foundation, this is a program of Barton Hospice. Residents of South Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville and the Carson City areas may apply to attend. A group of South Tahoe High School students joined Edgewood employees, conservation experts and officials on May 19 to plant new nursery grown stems of the threatened plant, Tahoe yellow cress on the beach at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Edgewood Companies is participating in a volunteer program called the Tahoe Yellow Cress Stewardship Program and has been assisting with inventory surveys as far back as 1979.

CARNELIAN BAY — Results of a new U.S. Geological Survey study found that faults west of Lake Tahoe, Calif., referred to as the Tahoe-Sierra frontal fault zone, pose a substantial increase in the seismic hazard assessment for the Lake Tahoe region of California and Nevada, and could potentially generate earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 6.3 to 6.9. A close association of landslide deposits and active faults also suggests that there is an earthquake-induced landslide hazard along the steep fault-formed range front west of Lake Tahoe.
