Partial Road Closure on Lakeview Avenue for Wednesday Lakeview Commons ceremony

The dedication ceremony of Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach will take place on Wednesday, June 20. To facilitate this event and to minimize the potential for traffic hazards between motor vehicles and pedestrians in this area, a one block section of Lakeview Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 11 a.m., according to the city in a press release. This closure of Lakeview Avenue will include the distance between Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Riverside Avenue. The re-opening of this closure is anticipated to be around 5 p.m.

North Lake Tahoe to Host Full Distance Ironman in 2013

North Lake Tahoe announced today that it will host the first full-distance Ironman event in California since 2001. The competition is scheduled to take place September 22, 2013.

A group of South Tahoe High School students joined Edgewood employees, conservation experts and officials on May 19 to plant new nursery grown stems of the threatened plant, Tahoe yellow cress on the beach at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Edgewood Companies is participating in a volunteer program called the Tahoe Yellow Cress Stewardship Program and has been assisting with inventory surveys as far back as 1979.

New earthquake technology reveals Lake Tahoe faults could generate large events

CARNELIAN BAY — Results of a new U.S. Geological Survey study found that faults west of Lake Tahoe, Calif., referred to as the Tahoe-Sierra frontal fault zone, pose a substantial increase in the seismic hazard assessment for the Lake Tahoe region of California and Nevada, and could potentially generate earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 6.3 to 6.9. A close association of landslide deposits and active faults also suggests that there is an earthquake-induced landslide hazard along the steep fault-formed range front west of Lake Tahoe.
