May 26, 2023 (All day) John “Snowshoe" Thompson-carried the U.S. Mail across the Sierra Nevada Mountains (Placerville to Genoa) during the winter for 20 years. He glided across the snow with an 80-pound sack over a 180-mile route in just 5 days. Using his hand-crafted snow skates (skis) and outfitted with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat and matches, Thompson was a larger-than-life character, saving numerous lives, serving his community unwaveringly and devoted his entire life to the betterment of his fellow man/woman.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to restrictions on gathering due to the pandemic, Veterans Day ceremonies in South Lake Tahoe area canceled for 2020. The American Legion Auxiliary and Vets in Counseling members placed approximately 600 flags at Happy Homestead Monday, after the snow fell.

The popular celebrity golf tournament will be held July 9-14 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The South Tahoe Amateur Hockey Association (STAHA) Grizzlies are hosting a weekend of hockey December 15-16 at the Lake Tahoe Ice Arena for their U10, U12 and U14 teams. Opponents include the San Jose Sharks junior team, the Cupertino Cougars and Santa Clara Blackhawks.
The Grizzlies are a youth developmental travel ice hockey program who participate in the Norcal Youth Hockey League. Their 14B team is undefeated and is bringing their 10-0-1 record into the weekend's play.

Opening night of South Tahoe High's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, originally slated for Friday, January 19, has been canceled due to the flu.
15 student cast members are ill, and with the that being an unusually high amount of students absent from school, the director Liz Niven had to cancel the show.
They hope to be able to go on with show Saturday, January 20 and add another show the following weekend.
If you have already purchased tickets for Friday, you will be able to exchange.

The Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe is not your normal lake front hotel this season. It has been transformed into something from the North Pole. Walk through the grounds and look at their lights and holiday decor that cover every inch of the resort and stay on display until mid-January. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Justin Timberlake is returning to Lake Tahoe for his third consecutive year playing in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. The singer/actor was an instant crowd favorite in his first year, and continued to be fan favorite in 2016.
Timberlake, an avid golfer, has a 4-handicap. Besides singing, acting, being a husband and father, he is also known for his philanthropic endeavors.

The annual Senior Awards Night saw 118 students recognized with $475,000 in scholarships. During the evening, 64 individual presentations honored one or more students for achievements.

Halloween on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe will have something for all ages. Here are some activities for kids:
Lego Block Party at the South Lake Tahoe Library at 10 a.m. - Design, build, invent with Legos! Join us as we build with Legos and Duplo blocks. The whole family is welcome. Your Lego creation will be displayed in the library until next month’s Block Party when the fun begins again. All blocks will be provided. Sponsored by Friends of the Library.
Step back into the Roaring 20s at Great Gatsby Festival

Step back in time with a living celebration of the Roaring 20s at the Great Gatsby Festival at the Tallac Historic Site on August 8 and 9, 2015. The Tahoe Heritage Foundation and U.S. Forest Service is hosting this wonderful event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days, free admission for all ages.

September 12, 2015 - 10:00am The fourth annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off is building for Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the South Tahoe Recreation Complex on Rufus Allen Blvd.in South Lake Tahoe. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. with vendors and a vintage car show. Vendors will offer products and services for the home, including items like hand crafted furniture and lamps, small plants, local artists and authors, candles, and gift items. Liberty Energy, the Lake Tahoe Humane Society, Christmas Cheer, and the Cancer League will be on hand to explain the services available for our community.
Family activities all day long on July 4th in South Lake Tahoe

Well before the fireworks are set off above Lake Tahoe at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, families will be able enjoy a plethora of activities along the South Shore.
The day starts off with the Annual South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. The procession will start at the SLT Recreation Center, to Highway 50 and down to Cardinale Way past the "Y." It will be over by 11 a.m.

Nevada State Parks offer free admission to all 23 parks on Saturday

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks” on Saturday, June 13. Park visitors will receive free day use admission and free fishing (no license required) at all of Nevada’s 23 State Parks.
