City Council appoints 16 citizens to commissions; three openings still exist

During the City Council meeting on January 20, the new council voted to fill spots on four City Commissions.

There was just one spot filled of the required two for the Airport Land Use Commission. Michael Siracuse was appointed to the two year term. Ted Long had applied for the other position but the Council said he didn't meet the experience requirements. The City will look for a qualified candidate to fill the open spot.

Council appointed David Huber, Keithh Cloutier, William “Chip” Henderson, Dale Rise and Randy Vogelgesang to the Building/ADA Board of Appeals. Robert King was also going for the same category as Henderson but he wrote a letter to Council withdrawing his name from consideration as he knew and supported Henderson. Two physically handicapped people must also serve on the commission but no applications were submitted. The City is looking to fill those positions.

Eleven people expressed interest in the five member Parks & Recreation Commission. Rebecca Bryson, Peter Fink, Steven Knoll, Bonnie Turnbull and Scott Valentine all received the required three votes from Council.

The longest vote count took place during the selection for Planning Commission. There were 14 community members interested in the five person commission. It took Council several vote counts to seat the members as all needed the required three votes. The Planning Commission will be comprised of Scott Blumenthal, Judy Brown, Shannon Eckmeyer, Dale Rise and Craig Woodward.

City Council directed the City Clerk to re-solicit applicants for one (1) member for the Airport Land Use Commission and two (2) members for the Building/ADA Board of Appeals who are physically handicapped persons. Check the City website for updates on the application period and process.

Councilmembers were thankful to for all of the applications received for the various commissions and stated that there were a large number of applicants and all were very well qualified.
