The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has announced they arrested a man who they believe was responsible for the Incline Village robbery of Wells Fargo Bank Friday.

A deputy was driving on the Mt. Rose Highway later that day and spotted the suspect and arrested him on robbery and drug possession charges.

Greg Bauer Roberts, 48, was booked into the Washoe County Jail where he is still being held as of Saturday morning. Bail has not been set.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Angel More is missing the first two days of her junior year at Menlo High School, but there is a very good reason.

She'll be swimming 21.3 miles across Lake Tahoe.

The 15-year-old Bay Area resident is after the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming, and when she gets out of the water Saturday morning she'll be the youngest person to do so. Only ten people have completed the Triple Crown, the youngest of that group being a 38-year-old man.

Fire restrictions on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin began Friday, August 17, 2018, and will remain in effect through November 15. Warm temperatures and dry vegetation combined with numerous wildfires burning in our region prompted the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) to implement restrictions intended to safeguard our communities across the Tahoe Basin.

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition is distributing 215 free bicycle racks throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin, creating secure parking for 430 bicycles at key public destinations.

Supported by funding from the Tahoe Fund and the Nevada Commission on Tourism and in-kind support from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the nonprofit Bike Coalition is distributing the high-quality bike racks to Tahoe’s local jurisdictions and government agencies. U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) will host the 22nd Annual Lake Tahoe Summit at Sand Harbor State Park in Incline Village, Nevada on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Beach and park operations will be closed until 1:00 p.m. that day.

Lawmakers from Nevada and California will meet on the shores of Lake Tahoe to discuss how to protect a national treasure as it faces continued threats to water clarity, invasive species, wildfire and drought.

A series of small earthquakes have been centered around the Tahoe City, California area, the largest being measured at 3.51 early Thursday morning according to data from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory on the University of Nevada campus.

At 12:22 a.m. on July 26, the small trembler hit 5.8 miles NNE of Tahoe City at a depth of 5.7 miles.

Nine other, much smaller quakes have occurred in the last 12 hours, 17 total in the past 10 days. One year ago there was a little swarm in the same area, with 28 minor quakes ranging from a magnitude of 0.6. to 3.7.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Public comment closes this week on plans released by the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) that address issues the agency is facing to be sustainable. Major changes are in store for riders.

Four plans were created as bus service cannot continue as it currently is due to several factors, including the cost of fleet replacement and improvement, funding availability and forecasted funds, regulatory compliance, and keeping and attracting drivers and staff.

Smoke could be seen over the mountains above Incline Village Sunday as the Evans Fire burned in southwest Reno. The fire started July 1 around 8:00 a.m. on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District in Evans Canyon near the Mount Rose Wilderness area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

So far, 60 acres of extremely dense vegetation and timber have burned and it is five percent contained. Both ground and air resources are on scene and more have been ordered. Hikers in the area have been evacuated.

To help you with this, the collaborative members of the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team are once again conducting Lake Tahoe Wildfire Awareness Month throughout the month of June. We encourage you to “Prepare Now! Wildfire Knows No Season.”

We've all seen the discarded sleds and other trash spread over popular roadside sledding areas around Lake Tahoe, and a recent cleanup got rid of the trash at Spooner Summit.

The Tahoe Fund organized the clean up day with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Starbucks of Incline Village.

Found during their morning cleanup efforts were lots of broken sled pieces, beer bottles, soda cans, gloves, wrappers and plastic utensils.

Sting operations in Zephyr Cove and South Lake Tahoe caught 16 people posing as licensed contractors. The California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) teamed with the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, May 16, and the following day in Zephyr Cove, Nevada.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of personal use fuelwood permits at the Forest Supervisor’s Office in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, June 4, 2018, and at the Incline Village Forest Service office on Wednesday, June 6. Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household.

Permits have specific conditions and complete information is provided when the permit is issued. Maps to designated cutting areas are provided and must be in the permit holder’s possession along with the valid permit when cutting.

An American Indian tribe with deep roots in the Lake Tahoe basin is seeking to reclaim land that’s part of a Nevada resort area.

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California wants to ask Congress for nearly 375 acres of federal land in Incline Village.

The property includes land that’s part of Diamond Peak Ski Resort and along fairways at Incline Village Championship Golf Course.

Tribal chairman Neil Mortimer made the request as part of an effort by Washoe County to shift thousands of acres from federal to private or local government ownership.

Twenty-seven Nevada judges have received awards for educational achievements earned through judicial education. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) provides judges continuing education programs to ensure a competent and professional judiciary.

“Nevada citizens deserve to feel confident their judges hand down the best decisions,” said Chief Justice Michael L. Douglas. “These awards demonstrate a commitment by Nevada judges to obtain knowledge about changes in the law and judicial practices.”

In advance of Earth Day, the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will have a presentation on April 10 around the fact that 500 million straws used, and discarded, daily in the United States.

That is enough straws to wrap around the Earth's circumference 2.5 times a day.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies successfully arrested two drug trafficking suspects who attempted to flee and fight with deputies and a K9 in two separate incidents over the weekend.

The first incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 when a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit attempted to make a traffic stop on the I-80 eastbound near Nugget Avenue. The deputy called for backup after his K9 made a positive alert for drugs.

The Truckee Police Department was notified by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office on March 7, 2018 about a possible fraud that may have taken place in both communities.

A vacation home in Incline Village had been rented for a number of days by a couple using a fraudulent credit card issued by a foreign country. When the rental company returned to the home on Friday afternoon, they discovered major damage to the residence as well as the theft of thousands of dollars worth of electronics and other valuables. The homeowners had reported an approximate loss of $75,000 in theft and damages.

Learn how to grow vegetables in your Lake Tahoe garden this summer through a series of free workshops presented by the UCCE Master Gardeners. The classes are offered at both ends of the lake on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during May. This year's classes are potatoes, onions, raspberries, lettuce & kale, and tomatoes.

Each week will be a new theme. The workshops are all family friendly and attendees get to go home with plants for your home garden!

Classes will run from May 14 - June 14th, 2018 in the evenings.

Volunteers are desperately needed for two upcoming student science events: The 2018 Science Expo March 12-16 in Incline Village and SLT Science Expo April 3-6 in South Lake Tahoe.

Being a volunteer is fun and easy! All science activities will be ready to go and minimal training is required, This year's activities focus on Life Science, Health and Nutrition, and include activities focused on the topics of organisms and ecosystems, inheritance and adaptation, and health and nutrition.

With the voter-approved legalization of marijuana in Nevada in 2016, local governments have been working to implement requirements of state law. Washoe County is seeking public input related to zoning, business licensing and public safety of legalized marijuana in unincorporated Washoe County.

Currently there is one dispensary in Incline Village at Lake Tahoe with Washoe County locations in Reno, Sparks and Sun Valley.
