South Lake Tahoe joins hands with Barton Health to create inaugural Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival

Many of us take advantage of all Lake Tahoe has to offer, including hiking, biking, camping, skiing and much more, but I have come across several members of our community recently who feel as though they don’t know how to exactly go about enjoying these things. So, at Barton Health, we asked ourselves … what are things South Lake Tahoe has to offer that people could enjoy more?

South Lake Tahoe is home to LEGO summer brick project

An exhibit for one of the world's most famous toys is in South Lake Tahoe right now. The LEGO Summer Brickation gives kids and families a chance to put their building skills to work.
LEGO's of all shapes and sizes fill the entire exhibit in Heavenly Village. If you're 10 years old, life doesn't get much better than this.
"Instead of having to drive down in California to go to LEGOLAND, we can just come here," says 10-year-old Griffin Howell.
You can't just find something like this anywhere you go. This hands-on exhibit is only in three other cities across the country this summer.

Where to buy a Lake Tahoe home...Nevada or California?

Just a few years ago home buyers were choosing the Nevada side over the California side when looking for a Lake Tahoe home to purchase. Taxes were lower and schools were better so Nevada was more attractive. But is that still the feeling? There's good news, and bad news, depending on which neighborhood/state you're set on owning a home in.

Skibum column: Getting stuck in the traffic of life

If the TTD took the $70 Million that they say it will cost to build the loop road and fix up the area they would still have enough over to give us a free bus system like most of the other resort towns. They are not alleviating any traffic flows or amount of cars only diverting them faster to Nevada. How is diverting the traffic helping the traffic situation, we will still have the same amount of cars on the road. I have said this before about other things done to us by our Government agency’s doing what’s best for them and us(mostly them).

Column: Finding our place in history

I met Aletha Tom a few weeks ago when I was writing a story about the organized effort to refurbish the “S” for Stewart painted on the hillside above the former American Indian boarding school.
She graduated from the school in 1965 but didn't return until many years later, after she'd gotten married and had kids of her own.
Passing through Carson City, she took a spontaneous detour to her alma mater. As she walked onto the grounds of the old Stewart Indian School, she told me, the present faded away.
