The following are calls that only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma and the Echo Summit area. There may be some missing calls due to sheriff's logs not being completed at time of story.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With several hot topics on the horizon, Heather Stroud was approved today to be the new city attorney for South Lake Tahoe.

She was introduced during Tuesday's City Council where they unanimously approved her contract. Stroud then moved to the city attorney chair for the rest of the meeting.

Stroud's five-year contract gives her a base salary of $160,000.00 plus paid sick days, a car allowance of $250, and an opportunity to buy into the City's health plan.

The weather has been beautiful in South Lake Tahoe over the Labor Day Weekend and more of the same is expected in the coming week.

Slight winds with mostly clear skies will prevail this week in South Lake Tahoe. There will be a couple of weak disturbances Monday and Tuesday, giving a chance for cumulus buildups over the mountains and possibly a stray afternoon thunderstorm over the southern Sierra around Mono County.

Heading to Lake Tahoe this Labor Day weekend to celebrate the unofficial end of summer? Below are some tips and important information for residents and visitors to keep in mind for a safe and fun-filled holiday weekend.

We've all most likely had an experience hailing or calling for a cab, but how many have tried that doing that on Lake Tahoe? There are no stop signs or stop lights, it's worry free, no traffic, no parking madness, just you and the crystal blue water underneath your water taxi as it glides from marina to marina at a steady 10 knots.

On Monday I boarded the South Shore Water Shuttle at Lakeside Marina for a round trip to all four of its regular stops, Timber Cove Marina, Camp Richardson Resort & Marina and Round Hill Pines Beach Resort & Marina, and then back to Lakeside.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Labor Day officially marks the end of the summer season in Lake Tahoe and weekend-long celebrations are spread throughout the South Shore September 1-3, 2018.

Labor Day Lasers at Lakeview return to Lakeview Commons on Sunday, September 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Besides a laser show that uses the tall pines as a backdrop there will be food trucks, a dozen local vendors where people can purchase handcrafted goods and clothing, and a wine and beer garden.

The beaches can get thrashed with trash after the popular holiday weekend festivities. Help us keep our beaches clean! We provide cleanup materials, refreshments and a prize. Ride your bike to receive a special gift. Bring your reusable water bottle and friends!

I recently enjoyed a delightful trip down memory lane in the showroom at Harrah's Tahoe during their hit summer-long show, Solid Gold Soul, which is a bit of glamour, glitter and a whole lot of talent.

Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe announced today that they once again have a paid valet and self-parking program this year, beginning on the first concert date of the summer, Saturday, June 16.

Parking rates will run $20 for self-parking and $25 for valet parking with both cash and credit cards accepted for payment, and will run this summer on days and nights during major special events and peak holiday periods at both Stateline, Nevada properties.

The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day ceremony at the Happy Homestead Cemetery, 1261 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, on Monday, May 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.

The annual remembrance event is hosted by the American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe and their Ladies Auxiliary. After the ceremony, locals and visitors are invited for cake and refreshments at the American Legion Hall on Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Recently retired from the City of Davis, Dirk Brazil has been selected to become the City of South Lake Tahoe's interim city manager starting June 5.

Even though he doesn't start officially until next month, Brazil has been in town meeting with various stakeholders and getting to know the city.

He said a lot of things in a city are the same, departments and their functions are similar, but each one has its own issues.

This has been National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, so what better time to sit down with the women who answer 911 calls in South Lake Tahoe who are the first step in protecting homes, property and people and the unsung heroes of the community.

With an average of 300 to 400 calls going into dispatch each month, staff has to be ready to handle an emergency at every moment through their shift, which in South Lake Tahoe is normally 10 hours long, though they can be up to 12 hours.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Jeff Meston has given the city council a 30-day notice for his acting city manager job.

"I am unable to complete my duties as the fire chief while working as the acting city manager," Meston said in a letter to the council. "I respectfully request that we move ahead in the next 30 days to find and hire an interim city manager. I believe the City will be better served with a professional city manager."

The March 6 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting will include discussion on the annual music festival, SnowGlobe.

Council members will hear from the concert promoters, city staff and the public and decide one of three options: Continue with existing agreement but add additional conditions, continue as is, or consider terminating the agreement for the Dec. 29-31 event.

They will also hear from the Tahoe Prosperity Center on their funding request of $20,000, a vote on the final subdivision map for Gondola Vista estates

And its happening outside our door.

Residents in South Lake Tahoe will soon be paying more for garbage pick-up after the South Lake Tahoe City Council voted 4-1 to approve South Tahoe Refuse's request to raise rates for residential customers by 8.81 percent, the biggest one-time increase ever added to the service.

The rate increase will go into effect January 1, 2018.

The monthly rate for SLT customers will go from $26.55 to #28.89 for unlimited service, and increase of $2.34. Qualified seniors (65 and over and part of Liberty Utilities Care program) will pay an extra $1.95, taking their monthly rate to $24.15.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will soon begin closing recreational facilities and forest roads around the Lake Tahoe Basin for the winter season. Seasonal closures apply to many Forest Service recreation sites including beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas and forest roads. Keep in mind that Tahoe Valley and Zephyr Cove Resort campgrounds remain open year-round along with Camp Richardson and Zephyr Cove resorts and beaches.

As the world changes around South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is evolving to meet the new demands of education and the student body. As there is a decline in community college enrollment across the country, LTCC is being creative in recruitment of students to the campus and investing in not only the environment, but in removing barriers many have in getting a secondary education.

That was the message during Lake Tahoe Community College President Jeff DeFranco's first State of the College Address on Thursday.

EMERGENCY PROJECT

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope and roadway repair work. Completion is expected by the end of the year.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

Tahoe Douglas Fire Department is holding their annual Labor Day Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Station 23 at 193 Elks Point Road.

Meet TDFD Chief Scott Baker and the firefighters, tour the station, play fire safety games, learn how to use an extinguisher, see bomb squad demonstrations and learn how to properly install a car seat.

Since its a pancake breakfast, they are also serving up breakfast! A $5 donation is suggested for adults and kids over 12, those under 12 are free.

Funds raised go to community causes such as youth scholarships.

Work on the $56 million Highway 50 project in South Lake Tahoe is suspended for the Labor Day weekend, but once the holiday traffic leaves drivers can expect longer delays when lane restrictions are increased.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 12:01 a.m., contractor Security Paving Inc. may reduce the highway to one open lane iSn each direction around the clock until 11 a.m. on Fridays.

Beginning Sept. 10, work will be around the clock from midnight Sunday to 11 a.m. Friday each week, with weekends free of construction. Motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

When people eat at any one of the 31 Reno or Greater Sacramento area Chipotle locations on Labor Day (Monday, September 4), Chipotle will donate 50 percent of all proceeds to protect Lake Tahoe if the customer tells them they support "Keep Tahoe Blue."

Either show this promotion on your smartphone or tell the cashier you support Keep Tahoe Blue to make sure that 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the League to Save Lake Tahoe.

This promotion is from 10:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. September 4 only.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board on Wednesday approved an emergency permit for Caltrans to remove hazardous dying trees along its highways and rights of way in the Tahoe Basin.

California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a tree mortality emergency in October 2015 because of widespread tree die-offs after several years of severe drought. There are now an estimated 102 million dead trees in California, with the greatest tree mortality in the Southern Sierra Nevada.

Who would have known a horseshoe game at TJ’s Peanut Farm (now known as Steamer’s Bar and Grill) in 1977 would so greatly impact a community? It was this game that raised the first dollar to fund an organization that would go on to help thousands of South Lake Tahoe community members affected by domestic violence, including more than 1,000 last year.
