Decision expected in May on status of major Lake Tahoe events

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - With formal events being canceled due to COVID-19 health concerns, there are two major summer events in Lake Tahoe that are still officially on the calendar. The holding of the American Century Championship (Celebrity Golf) and 4th of July Fireworks for this summer is expected to be determined mid-May.

Incline Village/Crystal Bay leaders announced their fireworks were going to be canceled earlier this month, but the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority (TDVA) board will be voting at their May meeting on the 2020 South Shore display.

Hard Rock Lake Tahoe has two ways to enjoy the evening:

Starting at 9:00 p.m., enjoy live music by DJ Rizzo until the ball drops with people of all age at their Light Up The Plaza in front of the casino. This is a free event, but you can purchase an LED wristband that syncs with the music for $10 from Party HQ.

South Lake Tahoe activities during Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and two events are planned by Live Violence Free to raise not only awareness, but funds for their South Lake Tahoe programs.

On Thursday, October 12, enjoy the Purple
Party at McP's starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. Free appetizers, live music and contest for best purple costume. There was going to be a parade, but dropping temperatures have moved the party inside.

McP's is located at 4125 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.

Great Sierra River Cleanup - Join the ninth annual Great Sierra River Cleanup in conjunction with California Coastal Cleanup day on September 16 starting at 8:00 a.m. Join hundreds of volunteers this day in cleaning up the Lake Tahoe region. (more info here)

Climate change experts and meteorologists attending Operation Sierra Storm

South Lake Tahoe is host to Operation Sierra Storm each year, a leading national weather conference that brings together those that report the weather with South Lake Tahoe activities and top climate scientists.

The three-day conference runs from January 6-9, 2016 and the public has the opportunity to attend the Friday sessions that feature California State Sen. Pro Tem Kevin de León and Alexander (Sasha) Gershunov, Research Meteorologist for Climate, Atmospheric Science and Physical Oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Family activities all day long on July 4th in South Lake Tahoe

Well before the fireworks are set off above Lake Tahoe at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, families will be able enjoy a plethora of activities along the South Shore.

The day starts off with the Annual South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. The procession will start at the SLT Recreation Center, to Highway 50 and down to Cardinale Way past the "Y." It will be over by 11 a.m.

Full day of South Lake Tahoe activities on tap for Sunday

Visitors and locals alike will find a variety of activities to enjoy in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, August 31.

The highlight of the day will be the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center's Friday Night Summer Programs Begin July 11

The Lake of the Sky Amphitheater evening programs at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center begin July 11, 2014, and continue every Friday evening through August.

The series kicks off Friday, July 11, with "An Evening with Mark Twain" featuring McAvoy Layne performing as Mark Twain live on stage at 7 p.m.

Free Outdoors Jazzercise Event

Jazzercise takes to the outdoors for a free two day exercise event at the Harvey's Arena on Monday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 14. Eight local instructions will showcase some of the hottest routines and highlight music from Pit Bull, Jennifer Lopez, Macklemore, Michael Franti and lots more.

Everyone is invited to this family friendly event which will be a forty minute aerobic worked followed by 20 minutes of strength training.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own weights or tubes if they have them. The event starts at 6:30 pm on both evenings.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals to Host Hop-pening Spring Mixer

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals keep the spring season hopping with a post-Easter egg hunt and mixer at Lakeside Beach Grill, April 19 from 6 – 9 p.m. with food and drink specials.
