Full day of South Lake Tahoe activities on tap for Sunday

Visitors and locals alike will find a variety of activities to enjoy in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, August 31.

The highlight of the day will be the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

There are a variety of ways to enjoy the fireworks besides enjoying them from the beach or a private boat. Edgewood Tahoe has a dinner special with seating afterwards to watch the show. The Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie both have special cruise that anchors right next to the fireworks. Other commercial boats with fireworks cruises are the Woodwind II and Safari Rose.

During the day people can visit the Kiwanis Community Carnival in the parking lot of Lake Tahoe Community College from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. They have a BBQ, rides, games, contests, live entertainment and a Volkswagon Show.

Across the street at Bijou Community Park is the 5th Annual Sample the Sierra Farm to Fork Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Enjoy pairings of local wine with local restaurant creations from farms in the county. The $40 tickets are available at the gate.

There are annual ski and snowboard sales at Heavenly Valley Resort and Powder House.

Heavenly Mountain Run is being held from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

The Heavenly Village Days car show is at Heavenly Village all day.

The Tahoe Geotourism Expo wraps up with a full day of activities from fly fishing to yoga and Indian lore.

The Grand Opening of the new South Tahoe SUP and South Shore Bikes is at their new Hwy 89 locations.

At 3 p.m. at Lakeview Commons, community organizers are holding the Lake Tahoe Water Challenge to raise money for both ALS and local charities. Show up at the beach with your own 5 gallon bucket and $10 (or more) to donate. Since we're in a drought, participants will be standing in the lake and using lake water.
