From March 29-31, 2013, Heavenly Mountain Resort will be buzzing with excitement as Olympic hopefuls take to the California side of the resort to compete in moguls, aerials and dual moguls. The Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships will return to Heavenly’s famous Gunbarrel run, as U.S. team athletes come together for the final event of the season to battle it out for the title of U.S. Champion. Leading the team are Olympic and World Champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT), and hometown hero Sho Kashima (South Lake Tahoe, CA).

So far the 2012-13 season snowfall total for Kirkwood is 210 inches, and more is on the way with storms heading into the New Year in time for the mountain's 40th anniversary.

Lake Tahoe, Sierra brace for winter storms to arrive as Christmas travel period begins
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 7:16pmA series of strong winter storms will arrive in three waves and when it is over, anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of snow will have dropped above Lake Tahoe, at ski resorts, on highways and throughout much of the Sierra in time for Christmas.
A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through Monday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as a strong series of systems moves into the region.
Periods of light to moderate snow will begin Friday and intensive early Saturday morning with moderate to heavy snow Saturday through Sunday night.

The Young Professions organized a holiday ‘FUN’draiser to benefit Tahoe’s SkiDUCK, (SKi and snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids) at Riva Grill last month which included an evening of live music, raffle prizes, silent auction items, photo booth, games, food and drinks.

Kirkwood opens 40th season with four feet of snow

“The last two storms that have rolled through the Sierra have dropped a combined four feet of snow at Kirkwood, allowing us to open early for all our passionate skiers and riders,” said Casey Blann, general manager of Kirkwood. “This will be a great start to the 40th anniversary season at Kirkwood, and the first with Vail Resorts.”

RHAA office opens in South Lake Tahoe

Mr. Long and RHAA teamed together on the El Dorado Beach project at Lakeview Commons that opened June 20. Lakeview Commons’ rejuvenated waterfront with terraced seating was designed to enhance the natural beauty of the area and now serves as a great gathering space for water sports, live music or just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Barton Foundation’s Third Annual 'Signature' Cocktail Contest

Mixologists, also known as bartenders, will create delicious winter cocktail concoctions, while adding their own enticing flare during the third annual Barton Foundation “Signature” Cocktail Contest, Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Riva Grill.
The contest, sponsored by Riva Grill and Tahoe Blue Vodka, is the official “kick off” to the annual Festival of Trees & Lights, held November 29 – December 2, at Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa.

Tahoe Mountain Faire set for August 11-12

Music, food, contests and an all-round weekend centered around the hometown will be featured at the Tahoe Mountain Faire, August 11-12 at the Tahoe Valley Campground, 175 Melba Drive in South Lake Tahoe.
Weekend festivities will feature food, games, a pie-eating contest and live music both days. Faire sponsors include the Pine Cone Acre Motel, Grocery Outlet, the Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled, Golden Bear Events, KTHO AM 590 and FM 96.1, KRLT, 93.9 The Lake and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
Volunteers wanted for Monday morning Live at Lakeview Beach Cleanup

Ensuring their part to keep the shores of South Lake Tahoe clean and tidy, organizers of Live at Lakeview will hold its next beach cleanup at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 30, at Lakeview Commons. Organizers will provide trash bags and gloves. They ask for volunteers and their friends to head to the beach and show their support for the enormously popular concert series by cleaning up the beach and surrounding area.
Beach benefit for South Shore Lake Tahoe local Sean Riley set for August 15

In May, local community member Sean Riley suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a succession of blackouts and falls. A Beach Bash Benefit is being held to help offset Sean’s medical expenses on Wednesday, August 15, 5-8 p.m., at Zephyr Cove Resort.
Sean is an off-road tour guide for Lake Tahoe Adventures and his wife, Georgette, works for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Tahoe Chamber. Sean has been hospitalized since May and came home this week and is now under 24-hour care. He is doing better, but does have some issues with comprehension and memory as a result of the injury, and has a long road to recovery requiring extensive therapy, home supervision and care.
