The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, a Vintage Boat Show for Charity is the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc., Northern California/Lake Tahoe Chapter's only ACBS-judged boat show. The 5th annual 2012 boat show is featured July 27-28 at the Tahoe Keys Marina & Yacht Club will display 70 antique and classic boats and gift $12,250 to local charities.

Live at Lakeview Beach Cleanup on Monday

Ensuring their part to keep the shores of South Lake Tahoe clean and tidy, organizers of Live at Lakeview will hold its next beach cleanup at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 23, at Lakeview Commons. Organizers will provide trash bags and gloves. They ask for volunteers and their friends to head to the beach and show their support for the enormously popular concert series by cleaning up the beach and surrounding area.

Climb aboard a raft this summer and float the Truckee River

The dam gates are open and the river is flowing, and rafting along North Lake Tahoe’s scenic Truckee River is now open.

Tahoe City-based Truckee River Rafting opened Tuesday, June 12. Truckee River Raft Company, also in Tahoe City, opens today, Thursday, June 14. The companies offer self-guided, five-mile floats down the Truckee River.

South Lake Tahoe Certified Farmers' Market begins June 5

This year's crop of organic produce will find its way to South Lake Tahoe beginning June 5 and extend throughout summer at the American Legion Hall parking lot and Fridays starting June 22 on Ski Run Boulevard.
The Certified Farmers' Market will run from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. each Tuesday through Oct. 9 at the American Legion Hall parking lot. Produce is picked within hours of market days and visitor can talk directly to the farmer and learn about new varieties of fruits and vegetables and farming practices.

Diamond Peak’s 12th Annual Dummy Downhill

Diamond Peak will continue the tradition of the Dummy Downhill on April 1, 2012. This will be the 12th year for the community’s favorite event of the season.
Participants build a dummy on skis or a snowboard that gets launched off a big jump on Showoff run. Categories include Best Crash, Longest Jump, Most Creative, Shortest Distance and whatever else the judges decide to make up.

And on top of that, it's spring skiing, always the best of the year. Forget those crowds of December and January, don't recall those icy January days when the wind howled. It's spring skiing, lightly clad with plenty of sun for sitting on the lodge deck.

Plenty of snow at Lake Tahoe for spring skiing, snowboarding

It's been a weird ski and riding season, for sure. One indication is that Heavenly Mountain Resort is only operating the Boulder base lodge and the Boulder and North Bowl lifts on weekends. In all the years I taught at Boulder never has had a shutdown like this. Too bad because lots of locals liked Boulder as out-of-towners didn't go there very often. Thus, parking was close and runs not crowded.

Heavenly Lake Tahoe opens expert terrain at Mott Canyon

A recent winter storm that blanketed Heavenly Mountain Resort with as much as three-and-a-half feet of new snow has allowed the resort to open three quarters of the mountain, including the double-black diamond, expert-only Mott Canyon. Now with 3,600 open acres, Heavenly is offering the most skiable terrain at Lake Tahoe.

New Snow Allows Heavenly to Open Milky Way Bowl

After receiving 12” of new snow on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, Heavenly Mountain Resort will open Milky Way Bowl for the first time this season, giving the resort additional expert and off-piste terrain. Heavenly will have 50 percent of the resort open, totaling 2,400 acres.

Tahoe Project fundraiser screening of 'Happy' the movie

New storm to arrive on Sunday; ski resorts prepare for brisk business

Winter weather continues through today in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow. Kirkwood adds U.S. Airbag technology after holiday demonstration

An inflatable airbag demonstration at Kirkwood Mountain Resort last month will give way to a new feature at the resort beginning in February, officials announced. Winter White was the theme at Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (TRYP) inaugural holiday party raising more than $3,000 for Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) on Saturday, November 19 at Riva Grill.

“I was speechless,” Heather Avila, TYFS Alcohol and Drug Counselor and The Girls Project Coordinator said. “It was an emotional moment for me. I have never seen generosity in such abundance!”

Kirkwood Mountain Resort to open Friday

Kirkwood Mountain Resort announced it will open Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving, and remain open through the weekend, and then again from Friday, Dec. 2 to Dec. 4. Kirkwood says it will use midweek operations for on mountain preparation, snow making and readying more terrain. The resort hopes to open for full seven-day-a-week winter operations beginning Friday, Dec. 9. The date may change, however, with significant snowfall.

Trick or Treat with Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) at KRLT, 93.9, “The Lake” annual “Treat Street,” October 31. Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport.
