More than $1.6 million in course improvements highlight the 45th season of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, set to open at Stateline, Lake Tahoe May 9.

A 10-year environmental plan meant to reduce impact and save water has been put in place with upgrades to the irrigation system as well as drought and stress tolerant grass. Other improvements include GPS devices on carts that feature yardage and video tips from pros.

With snow on the way in time for the weekend, South Shore Lake Tahoe has a number of activities at ski resorts, lodges and casinos lined up now through spring. Besides skiing and snow boarding at Sierra Resort, Heavenly and Kirkwood there's concerts, contests and festivals planned in the weeks ahead.

Boogie Nights, the ultimate ’70s and ’80s dance party, arrived Lake Tahoe South shore style at MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa Jan. 26 and will continue Saturdays through winter.

Alpenglow Sports has teamed up with Tahoe Cross Country to present the first-ever Lake Tahoe Nordic Festival Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10. The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $12,850 check today to the Tahoe Transportation District for the Rabe Meadow Bike Path, a key segment of the proposed new bike and pedestrian route around Lake Tahoe called the Lake Tahoe Bikeway. The Bikeway will link communities around the lake, improve air quality, and provide a breathtaking recreational amenity for Tahoe residents and visitors.

The Lake Tahoe area ski season is getting a strong start this year. Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, told Capital Public Radio that with ski resorts opening about a week early, lodging and bookings are up 5 to 10 percent from what they were last year.

Value-added skiing and boarding has been passed down to three Lake Tahoe area resorts. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort season passholders can now enjoy free skiing or riding at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows from opening day until December 21, 2012, as well as from April 15, 2013 until closing day.

Imagine working at the place where you normally play. Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe are giving candidates that opportunity by hiring 1,500 employees and 750 employees, respectively, for the 2012-13 winter season. On Saturday, October 20, the annual job fair will be held jointly for Heavenly and Kirkwood at the California Main Lodge at Heavenly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Lake Tahoe Sierra Century Ride 2012 is slated for Saturday, September 22, offering incredible scenery and excellent exercise, all benefiting a great cause. Riders can choose a 100-mile, 60-mile or 30-mile route and enjoy breathtaking vistas and the crisp mountain air of autumn in the Sierra.

Friday, August 31st kicks off Sample the Sierra with a Winemaker and Chef’s Table dinner at Crystal Basin Bistro in Camino on the Western Slope of the Sierras. Saturday, September 1st hosts a Sip & Shop at Après Wine Company featuring the award winning wines of Synapse “Microwinery” and locally made gifts.

A water taxi service based at Camp Richardson Resort connects locals and visitors to lakeside marinas, enhancing economic activity on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. The service offers stops at three marinas providing access to recreation, sightseeing, dining and shopping.

Spend Labor Day Weekend in South Lake Tahoe sampling the best food, wine, and art in the Sierra Nevada Region. The 3rd annual Sample the Sierra farm-to-fork festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 on Ski Run Boulevard.
This year, 15 local restaurants and farmers will be paired together to produce mouthwatering samples for festival-goers to enjoy. Each food sample will be paired with an accompanying wine, also local to the region.

This July, Squaw Valley saddles up again for Wild West Weekend with a host of western-themed events high in the Sierra. Wild West Weekend offers adults and kids the opportunity to channel their inner-cowboys at the High Camp Corral for western-style fun. Pony rides, a petting zoo, western shoot-outs, and two days of live music are all part of the western weekend on July 21 and July 22.

STATELINE – With a history in Lake Tahoe that dates to 1896, the Park family’s Edgewood Companies is poised to build the first high-end lodging establishment on the South Shore. Thursday marked the final day people could comment on the draft environmental impact statement for the Edgewood Lodge. Testimony was taken during the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Governing Board meeting, to which only people in support of the 15-room hotel spoke.
