The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe starting on Monday, December 31, 2018.

Due to the high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during this event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive. In past years, the road has closed anywhere from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

NDOT has new chain requirements on Lake Tahoe highways for 2018-19 winter

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There are new chain requirements on Kingsbury Grade, Mt. Rose Highway and Spooner Summit during the 2018-19 winter.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has enacted a change on these Tahoe-area highways and now require any vehicle traveling without tire chains during winter chain restrictions to be four-wheel or all-wheel drive with snow tires. No longer will cars without these distinctions be allowed to cross chain control lines with just snow tires.

Chain controls go up around Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the first time in months it is snowing in the Sierra and chain controls are up on area roads. The snow hit a few hours later than planned, but, it's here!

As of 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night the following controls are in place:

Highway 50/Echo Summit - From Fred's Place to Meyers: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas).

NDOT to close stretch of I-580/US 395 for utility work

There will be a full closure of Interstate 580 in northern Carson City and Washoe Valley during the morning hours of both Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, NV Energy and Nevada Department of Transportation announced Friday.

Overwhelming support of South Shore Community Revitalization Project at TRPA meeting

STATELINE, Nev. - A standing room only crowd was in the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) board room on October 25, 2018 for an updated presentation, and plans for the next steps, of the U.S. 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project, commonly known as the Loop Road. It reroutes Highway 50 from its current location in front of Heavenly Village and the casinos to behind Raley's, the Village Center and Harrahs Tahoe.

NDOT finishes ahead of schedule, no more Lake Tahoe road closures this week

The Nevada Department of Transportation has wrapped up the first in a series of overnight full road closures on State Route 28 ahead of schedule.

Lane closures over on Kingsbury Grade, NDOT project nearing completion

STATELINE, Nev. - Lane closures in place on Kingsbury Grade (SR 207) this summer have been removed now that the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has substantially completed a project to enhance roadway drainage pipes on the Carson Valley side of the road.

Motorists can still expect some intermittent minor shoulder and other closures.
