Fresh Snow & Snow Showers reported at Resorts this morning and the Winter Weather Advisory will expire at 10:00am… Ski or Ride with a Buddy if you venture in Opened Off-Piste terrain… New Snow surface is moist and sticky… Have Fun & Be Safe!

Today’s Weather: Expect Mostly Cloudy Skies in the morning, then becoming Partly Cloudy. Scattered Snow Showers in the morning. Snow accumulation up to 3” above 7000 feet. Highs: 35F-40F (25F-30F on the Slopes). Southwest winds 10-15 mph. Ridge Gusts up to 70 mph decreasing to 50 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Partly Cloudy in the evening, then becoming Mostly Cloudy. Lows: 19F – 29F. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT TO 10 AM PST MONDAY…

* CHANGES: Lake level totals reduced slightly.

* WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches above 7000 feet, with up to 14 inches on the crest. Between 6500 and 7000 feet, 3 to 7 inches are expected. At lake level, up to 3 inches are possible.

* WHERE: Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

* WHEN: From 6 PM Sunday to 10 AM PST Monday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel could be very difficult across the Sierra passes. Strong winds could produce isolated tree damage and possible power outages. Strong winds will cause dangerous chop on Lake Tahoe, with waves 2 to 4 feet from mid lake to north and east shores.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities… use caution while driving. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

WHAT TO WEAR: Dress, in layers with your Gore-Tex Jacket or Shell. Take good gloves, a hat or beanie, and wear a Helmet for Safety. Also wear good Sunglasses or Goggles. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen (when the sun is out) & stay hydrated at altitude!

SURFACE CONDITIONS: Surface Conditions are Machine Groomed & Skier-Rider Packed Powder/Snow. Watch for marked & unmarked obstacles.

SAFETY MESSAGE: Stay on designated Opened Trails only. Keep an eye out for marked and unmarked obstacles. Slow Down and observe safety signs on trails with high concentration of skiers and riders… Know the Code! Always stay in control. Be able to avoid objects and people in your Path! Please stop to side of the run where it is safe and always check uphill for skiers and riders before restarting downhill.

Human-triggered avalanches will be possible today due to wind slab and storm slab avalanche problems. MODERATE avalanche danger exists at all elevations. Maintain awareness of the conditions and terrain while traveling in the backcountry and use this information to create safety margins that avoid the avalanche problems.
