Record Store Day Celebration

Event Date:
August 29, 2020 - 11:00am

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, California – The Saturday Show of Support Series continues with a “Sound and Vision” celebration of Art and Music on Record Store Day at Keynote Used Records and Books, 2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in support of the Tahoe Art League. Please join us from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, August 29th for a masked and socially distanced viewing of works by Tahoe Art League member Cherie Pinsky and a live performance by Turtle Park, featuring former Turtle’s guitarist Al Nichol and Park Kinnear on 12 and six-string guitar.

The exhibit is part of “Sound and Vision”, a series of introductions to work of local visual artists and the reciprocal connections of music and the art created. Cherie Pinsky’s paintings are full of energy that emanates from her loose brushwork and abstract shapes built with bright color and vibrant light. In her artist statement she states, “[My] paintings present both poetic and conventional images of Western American iconic landscapes. Often using 19th Century subjects or photographs, she takes advantage of history to imbue her work with a sweet/sad feeling of romantic nostalgia.” Pinsky’s background also includes eight years of studying the fiddle. The fiddle is undeniably instrumental in American Folk music, and her love of “old timey” music is played throughout her work as she engages the viewer to travel back to an earlier era and more sentimental times.

One of Pinsky’s favorite subjects is historic Bodie, CA. Now a ghost town and historic park, Pinsky brings us back in time as visitors to this once boomtown, walking among the wooden structures and stepping inside to explore the trappings of late 1800’s everyday life. Pinsky’s linoleum prints evoke the Arts and Crafts movement from the turn of the century and include images of some of South Lake Tahoe’s older cabins. Her more playful scenes will take you skiing and meeting friends at the top of Heavenly.

Keynote participated in the June premiere of the “Saturday Show of Support” fundraising efforts, which continues to benefit community organizations each week. Make Tahoe Records’ Sheilah Boothby states, “Keynote Used Records and Books is the perfect venue for Pinsky’s work. Keynote proprietor Ray Hadley has a collection of rare recorded music dating back to the early part of the century, and you will hear him play from the collection when you visit. Keynote Used Records and Books is part City Lights and part Library of Congress. Keynote hosts writers’ workshops and poetry readings and is simply packed with books and records. It’s really a wonderful place to visit if you are doing any kind of research or just want to open your mind by looking around and finding stuff you didn’t know existed. Hadley is a walking encyclopedia and card catalog, having been in business for more than 30 years. He’s the perfect guide for finding what you are looking for.”

This year’s first of three Record Store Day “Drop” dates is August 29th, with September 26th and October 24th dates to follow. Keynote will be offering customers a hefty 20% discount on vinyl for the August 29th celebration. Keynote Used Records and Books is located in the Town and Country Shopping Center at 2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA.
