South Tahoe High Performing Arts Department presents The Royal Family, a comedy by George S. Kaufman & Edna Ferber. Show dates are Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 31 at 7p.m. and Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m.

2012 Business Expo

The 2012 Business Expo, brought to you by TahoeChamber and Getaway Reno-Tahoe, is right around the corner! The most productive business event of the year will be on Friday, March 30 at Harrah’s Convention Center from 4-8pm. The blockbuster film "The Hunger Games," now at the Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe, is an entertaining sci-fi film that has broken box-office records nationwide. They are in district 12 of the world government which has replaced all others worldwide following a disastrous world war.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care eyes Echo Creek Ranch for relocation

A 16-acre parcel near where Highways 89 and 50 meet is being scoped as a possible and permanent relocation site for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.
The property, known as Echo Creek Ranch, sits in an estate and trust by the late Alex Graf and once had a value of about $7 million during the height of the real estate boom.

South Tahoe High Performing Arts Department presents The Royal Family, a comedy by George S. Kaufman & Edna Ferber. Show dates are Friday March 30 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 31 at 7p.m. and Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
The Royal Family opened in New York City in 1927 and quickly became an enduring favorite. The story is a parody of Drew Barrymore’s great-grandparents, the Barrymore family of Broadway fame. Like the Barrymores, the Cavendish clan is dedicated to theatre. But, for all their eccentricities and inflated emotions, the Cavendish clan is a family like any other.

Nevada Governor to Extend Sunsetting Taxes Into Next Two-Year Budget To Avoid Education Cuts

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he will propose to extend a package of taxes now set to expire in June 2013 into the next budget to avoid further cuts to education, which he said cannot withstand further reductions.
To maintain a basically flat spending plan for the two-year budget that will begin on July 1, 2013, Sandoval said the modified business tax that was maintained at a higher rate for large businesses in the 2011 legislative session, along with a small increase in the sales tax, must be continued.

Nevada’s Unemployment Rate Falls To 12.7 Percent In January But Jobs Picture Remains Mixed

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s jobless rate fell from a revised 13 percent in December to 12.7 percent in January, down from 13.8 percent a year ago and a peak of 14 percent in October 2010. The number of unemployed Nevadans remained relatively flat at 174,700, but is down 16,300 from the same month last year.

Plenty of snow at Lake Tahoe for spring skiing, snowboarding

It's been a weird ski and riding season, for sure. One indication is that Heavenly Mountain Resort is only operating the Boulder base lodge and the Boulder and North Bowl lifts on weekends. In all the years I taught at Boulder never has had a shutdown like this. Too bad because lots of locals liked Boulder as out-of-towners didn't go there very often. Thus, parking was close and runs not crowded.

Authorities ask for help in locating family of twin elderly South Lake Tahoe sisters found dead

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating family members of elderly twins, Patricia and Joan Miller, 73, who were found dead in their South Lake Tahoe home on February 26. The nature of their deaths hasn't been determined, however, foul play has been ruled out, said Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Golmitz. The cause and manner of death is still being investigated by El Dorado County Sheriff’s detectives and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Lake Tahoe Home & Garden Show at Lake Tahoe Community College April 27-28

The Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show, presented by Golden Bear Events, will be held in the Physical Education Gymnasium at Lake Tahoe Community College. The show will be Friday, April 27 from 4 pm to 8 pm; and Saturday, April 28, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Heavenly Lake Tahoe opens expert terrain at Mott Canyon

A recent winter storm that blanketed Heavenly Mountain Resort with as much as three-and-a-half feet of new snow has allowed the resort to open three quarters of the mountain, including the double-black diamond, expert-only Mott Canyon. Now with 3,600 open acres, Heavenly is offering the most skiable terrain at Lake Tahoe.

Water clarity at Lake Tahoe improved in 2011

Lake Tahoe clarity improved in 2011, but overall has remained nearly stable since 2000, according to a summary issued by UC Davis scientists who study the lake. Data released today by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency reported the average annual clarity level for 2011 at 68.9 feet, a 4.5-foot improvement over 2010, when average clarity levels were the second-worst on record.

Tahoe resorts, business outfit vehicle fleets with Lake Tahoe license plate

New Lake Tahoe license plates are appearing on the vehicle fleets of major ski resorts and businesses in the Tahoe Basin, as support for the Tahoe plate program in California and Nevada continues this winter.

Heavenly Ski Resort helped launch the program in 1996 and has 140 vehicles plated for Tahoe. Northstar Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Tahoe Dave’s Skis and Boards have ordered new Tahoe plates.

Nevada DMV driverless vehicle applications available March 1
