High-flying adventure flicks and non-stop entertainment arrives with the 12th Annual Lake Tahoe Adventure Film Festival, Saturday, Dec. 14 at MontBleu Resort, Casino & Spa.

Rooted as the nerve center for skiers, boarders, climbers and year-round adventurers, the film festival provides mountaintops, cliffhangers and enough high-energy entertainment between showings to ignite fervor for the New Year. The night includes guest speakers, action photo displays, break-dancers, DJs and a handful of surprises.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort announced that South Lake Tahoe local and professional skier Kyle Smaine will join the Sierra Resort™ Pro Team this season. Smaine was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe and learned to ski at Sierra Resort.

“I’m excited to join the Sierra-at-Tahoe family. I love the mountain. It’s where I learned to ski with my family. The laid-back vibe, and focus on terrain parks have kept my friends and I coming back year after year. It is a natural fit, and I’m excited to shred at Sierra-at-Tahoe this season,” said Smaine.

Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort has invested $5 million into a new facility located at the base of the mountain transforming the current skier services area into a mecca for gathering and services that improve the overall skier/boarder experience.

Focused on enriching the guests’ overall experience, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is excited to offer new additions for the 2013-14 season that will offer guests an enhanced on-mountain and overall experience. A new 9,000 square foot structure and plaza will improve the base area experience, enhance the overall après atmosphere, and give guests a place to gather and celebrate winter in the mountains. The Burton Star Wars™ Experience continues to grow with the Burton Star Wars™ Echo Base, a learning experience for kids ages 7-12.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort has launched a new online store and is encouraging guests to purchase online. The new store has been designed to provide a user-friendly experience with improved navigation and functionally throughout. Customers can now easily shop for season passes, rental equipment, lift tickets and more.

With less than 100 days until the beginning of the 2013-2014 Lake Tahoe ski and ride season, now is the time to purchase the best-valued season pass to Tahoe’s three premier mountain destinations, Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar.

The Tahoe Local and Tahoe Value Passes offer access to more than 263 trails, 14 terrain parks and 10,270 acres all on one pass; but the current season pass prices are only guaranteed through September 2, 2013.

After an action-packed winter season at Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Mountain Resort is switching gears and opening with summer activities this Memorial Day weekend May 25-27. Heavenly will run the Heavenly Gondola for sightseeing, dining, family activities and hiking. Operating times will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will give skiers and riders one last chance to shred Sierra Resort on April 15 with its Annual Customer Appreciation Day. Customer Appreciation Day is all about celebrating the season with fun stories of a season gone by and smiles.

Skiers and riders of all ages can purchase a lift ticket for only $25 on April 15. All of the proceeds raised from the day’s lift ticket sales will be donated to sponsor youth recreation and education including youth baseball, soccer, swimming, and other youth activities.

Sierra Resort at Lake Tahoe will host renowned freeskier and X-Games gold medalist Tanner Hall with the first ever Tanner Hall Invitational set for March 30.

Tied to the birth of freesking, Hall is well accomplished with multiple X Games gold medals in both slopestyle and superpipe. Hall has invited 15 of the best skiers in the world to participate in this one-of-a-kind event with a feature that will progress skiing and offer a different format than the traditional slopestyle contest, said Sierra spokesman Steve Hemphill.

Big mountain freeride action meets ski and boarder-cross strategy through Sunday in a mad-dash race for cash, as Kirkwood Mountain Resort hosts the first stop on the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour, presented by Bank of the West. Taking place at four Lake Tahoe resorts, it’s head–to-head action, four at a time, top to bottom, down a wide open course over natural terrain and snow conditions. This is the ultimate test of ski and riding skills.

With many people headed to the backcountry around Lake Tahoe there are areas the U.S. Forest Service has designated both on and off-limits areas for snowmobilers. Below is a news release and maps outlining rules, regulations and where to recreate around the basin.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is putting on the Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort Jan. 18-April 12.

Participants will learn about the mission and role of the Forest Service in ski area management, improve their understanding of natural resource issues, and learn about environmental stewardship.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will kick-off the 13th Lake Tahoe Kinder Kup Race Series at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Sunday, Jan. 27. Open to all skiers age six and under and snowboarders age eight and under, the Kinder Kup series is designed to introduce young athletes to competition in a friendly environment.
