Jamie Anderson nominated for 7th ESPY award; Public invited to vote
Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/24/2018 - 11:43pmOlympic Gold Medalist Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe has been nominated for two more ESPY awards in a year dominated by snowboarders, at least in the Olympic and action sport categories. She is up against fellow Olympian Chloe Kim for Best Female Action Sports Athlete, an award Anderson won in 2012, 2014 and 2016, and nominated for in 2007.
Anderson is also nominated for Best U.S. Female Olympian, an award she previously won in 2014. She is up against Kim for this award as well.
ESPY stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly.

She has earned the name "Angel of Tahoe" through her large donations, including $10 million to Barton Memorial Hospital for their new Robert Maloff Center of Excellence (Wellness and Sports Performance Center) and $5.8 million to Lake Tahoe Community College for the Lisa Maloff University Center. To date, Mrs. Maloff has donated $35 million in the past four years.
Dr. Jeffrey Orr returns to South Lake Tahoe as Barton's newest surgeon
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/01/2017 - 10:09amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Barton Health announced today that Jeffrey Orr, MD, has returned to his hometown of South Lake Tahoe to join its network of talented orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Orr received his medical doctorate from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He conducted his orthopedic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his fellowship training at the University of South Florida. He’s an affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Barton Health's Chris Proctor, MPT will fill in the public on how the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence is changing the face of healthcare in the South Lake Tahoe community at the next Wellness Lecture on January 25 at 6:00 p.m. Proctor will discuss how they're moving from a reactive healthcare model based on treating illness/ injury, to a proactive model using prevention and education.
Lake Tahoe local launches wearable tech product for athletes

Pace…Me is the first wearable, visual pacing device that enables athletes to make adjustments during their workout, allowing them to improve their times and manage fatigue.
The device uses LED technology for realtime feedback and can be used both from swim and drylands workouts.
Founder Victor Szanto says he developed Pace…Me to fill a gap in the current market.
Ground breaking at new Robert Maloff Center of Excellence at Barton

It's been 55 years since the Barton family donated the land where the first hospital in South Lake Tahoe was built, and it was in that same footprint of land that the ground was broken for the new center 26,000 square foot center on Tuesday.

Work to begin on the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence

The Center of Excellence will expand orthopedic, sports performance, and wellness services on the Barton Health campus. Individuals will work with a health navigator and a team of medical providers to develop and implement a customized care plan that integrates health, fitness, nutrition, and medical expertise.

$10 million gift presented for Barton Wellness and Sports Performance Center

The donation was made in memory of her husband Robert, who co-owned and operated the Lake Tahoe Inn and Timber Cove Lodge.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 9:43pmJust a few months after she donated $5 million to Lake Tahoe Community College, Lisa Maloff has made another large donation in honor of her late husband, Robert Maloff.
Barton Memorial Hospital is the latest recipient of Maloff's generosity. She made a $10 million gift to fund the building of a health and sports performance center on the Barton Memorial Hospital campus. The new center will be called the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence.
Barton Health offers fitness training for local running events

The community is invited to join Barton Health’s “Train for an Event Fitness Challenge” from March to June.
“Whether you are just getting off the couch or a seasoned athlete, this program is designed to motivate you and make you game day ready for one of our local race events,” said Krista Carson, Barton Health’s program coordinator.
