Lake Tahoe Golf Course is hosting their annual Local’s Day with a BioBlitz/Earth Day event on Wednesday, April 22nd from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. BioBlitz is a species counting competition organized by Audubon International to create awareness among golfers and the community about the environmental value of the habitats supported by golf courses.

Lake Tahoe Golf Course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

Litter. Dog poop. Unsafe fires. Bear safety. These are just some of the issues impacting our Region. Today, the Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee unveiled the Take Care™ campaign to help reduce these impacts and promote a more responsible use of our great outdoors.

The campaign was designed for use in outreach efforts by public agencies, private businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Region. Aimed at residents and visitors, the campaign is a series of reminders that poke fun at the mistakes we all make when we’re not paying attention.

Learn about the role the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) plays in the management of ski areas and other keys areas on the Lake Tahoe environment during their Ski With a Ranger program beginning on Friday, January 16.

Tours begin at the top of the gondola at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Monday and Friday. There is also a Spanish version starting at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning Friday, February 20, 2015.

They run until April 10, weather permitting.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded $150,000 to the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) to create a new, interactive public exhibit at the Tahoe Science Center, located in Incline Village. The exhibit will merge the results of citizen science with TERC’s new, real-time monitoring network that is being installed around the lake to understand and improve the clarity and health of Lake Tahoe’s shoreline.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe invites volunteers to come stabilize stream banks, pull invasive plants and restore trails for the 17th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day on September 27 at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers.

The park lies along the Upper Truckee River, Lake Tahoe’s largest tributary. Volunteer efforts will have a tangible effect on reducing sediment flow into the river, and help Keep Tahoe Blue. This is the League’s third year hosting the event at this location.

Camp Richardson will be turned into an agricultural center on September 16 when over 500 third and fourth graders from South Lake Tahoe take part in the 2nd Annual Tahoe Farm Day.

Tahoe Farm Day is an all day field trip where the students learn about the wide variety of regional agriculture. Over 30 volunteer presenters bring agriculture alive for students through creative, interactive activities that feature fruits, vegetables and farm animals as well as concepts of healthy eating, nutrition, and stewardship of the land.

The Sugar Pine Foundation and Himmel Haus are hosting a benefit music concert 'Reggae in the Pines' to raise money for planting 10,000 sugar pines in the Tahoe region.

Come enjoy some live music from local reggae band WEAPON, who are donating their services for free for the event, and Brewfish, a reggae/rock band from Long Beach, CA.

Will Eichelberger will be creating a LIVE ART MURAL, with lots of paints and a photo he captured, come check out his unique mixed-media art! He will also be donating one of his art pieces for the AUCTION!

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day is the largest volunteer restoration event in the Lake Tahoe basin. Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to restore trails, stabilize stream banks and plant native plants. Last year 82 volunteers from various organizations participated to help restore Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers, CA.

This year, volunteers are invited to help restore the watershed habitats that lead to Lake Tahoe.

The stewardship project starts at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers at 8 a.m.

Come learn about this spectacular trees at the Sugar Pine Foundation Presentation. Did you know that sugar pines are the largest pines in the world? And they have the longest cones? Come to a discussion of white pines and local forestry issues with the Executive Director of the Sugar Pine Foundation, Maria Mircheva. You will see a video of their work climbing trees to collect seeds and be able to examine their giant slingshot first hand.

As in other situations I recall over the years, we come together in times of crisis and demonstrate that we care deeply about this special place we call home. This summer, we as a community are forming a new team – Team Fireworks – and every member counts.

Adopt-a-Beach is one of the nicest and easiest ways to protect this valuable and beautiful treasure and they're looking for several volunteers to help this summer. This program is sponsored by the City of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority, U.S. Forest Service, League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and South Tahoe Refuse.

An innovation in aquatic invasive species protection was unveiled last week at the Water Sports Industry Association’s 2014 Summit that could make Lake Tahoe and recreational water bodies around the nation safer from the spread of invasive species, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) said Friday.

The U.S. Forest Service Ski with a Ranger program returns to South Lake Tahoe on Friday, January 17, 2014. Everyone in invited to join them at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Mondays and Fridays at 10 am and 1 pm. The Ski With a Ranger tours begin at the top of the gondola ad last about one hour.

Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket. No reservations are required; attendance is on a first-come first-served basis.

With ski resorts busy preparing for the winter season ahead, now is the time to start planning your time on the slopes! "Plates for Powder" is the successful promotion run by the Tahoe Fund to increase sales of the Lake Tahoe license plates.

Individuals who purchase the specialty Lake Tahoe license plate in either Nevada or California prior to April 1, 2014 will receive two lift tickets to their choice of 11 Lake Tahoe resorts.

The Sugar Pine Foundation's goal is to save the Sugar Pine and White Pine trees from blister rust in Lake Tahoe by educating and and involving the community in hands-on forest stewardship.

The group has several opportunities this fall to help save the trees by planting seedling in areas around the lake. 850 seedlings have already been planted this fall and more will be planted at the following events:

A major milestone for Lake Tahoe’s restoration and environmental redevelopment was reached today with the unanimous adoption by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board of the Douglas County South Shore Area Plan—the first local government Area Plan to be enacted under the 2012 Lake Tahoe Regional Plan—according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

The Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee is concluding a survey to discover what the public thinks are the most important actions people can take to help protect the Lake Tahoe region. Results of the survey will be used to inform the creation of a new Tahoe area Environmental Stewardship Messaging Campaign. Individuals have until 5 p.m. Monday, September 16th to weigh in and can take the survey online.

The Tahoe Fund is kicking off its 2013 fundraising season with the announcement of four 2013 Signature Projects that will help restore Lake Tahoe clarity and improve recreation in the Basin.

The projects include beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park, Asian Clam control in Emerald Bay, a mile of bike trail along the West Shore, and a new bridge across Angora Creek in the Washoe Meadows State Park. National recognition has been given to the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species watercraft inspection program once again, this time for the excellence of the public outreach campaign used to educate boaters about the program.

The campaign, directed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Tahoe Resource Conservation District, received a Silver Anvil award Thursday from the Public Relations Society of America—the nation’s most prestigious public relations award.

The Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Coordination Committee will host a free public forum on Thursday, May 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Inn By The Lake, located at 3300 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

The Tahoe Fund, Lake Tahoe’s non-profit dedicated to funding environmental improvement projects, received a $28,351 check from Vail Resorts atop Northstar Resort on Friday.

Dedicated to funding environmental improvement projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin, the nonprofit Tahoe Fund on Tuesday announced a million dollar fundraising goal for its Founders Circle campaign.

In October 2012, all sectors of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community came together, shared knowledge and discussed a vision for economic revitalization. During that forum a collective voice was discovered on many issues.

Now we need to connect the dots. In the spirit of the TED talks that sparked a wildfire of communal knowledge and immediate action around "ideas worth spreading," the Tahoe Prosperity Center and TahoeChamber are holding a second economic forum March 5.

The Tahoe Fund, an environmental non-profit raising funds for environmental improvement projects in the Tahoe Basin, today announced it has received an “Every Day Capacity Building Grant” from the National Environmental Education Foundation.

The grant program is made possible through the generous support of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. This grant will provide resources to help the Tahoe Fund expand its online fundraising capacity and donor management capabilities. The Tahoe Fund was one of 29 grantees selected from a competitive pool of 160 applicants. The grant is for $5,000.
