Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe hosts student art show

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emerging young Van Goghs and Picassos were on display this week at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT). Parents, family, and friends toured the displays Thursday afternoon.

The club's Art Director Gina Stowell has been working with the students in several mediums including pastels and charcoal, watercolor tempura, monochromatic, printmaking, acrylics, mixed media collages, and multi-colored drawings. All were hung around the room for the art show as was a special blacklight "Glow Gallery."

The artists on display were ages 6-15.

Zephyr Cove Tennis Club offers youth tennis class and camps

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – Area youth are invited to participate in the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club's summer programs which include camps and a free tennis skill class.

On June 8, a free event at the courts will be designed as a refresher for those who have swung a racket before and a chance for newcomers to learn the basics. It is open to anyone ages 4-12. The two-hour session from 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. will be overseen by the club’s head pro Dave Nostrant. Nostrant has decades of experience teaching all ages and abilities. This is his third summer at the Lake Tahoe club.

Spring into Summer event to highlight recreation services in South Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe History Club expands to six summer programs for kids

Looking for a fun activity for kids this summer where they get to experience activities from the past, learn a new skill, play games and use their imagination? They'll be learning without being in a classroom.

Children are encouraged to use their imaginations as they are introduced to new skills and traditional games from the past. By applying their new skills,
children will create projects and games they can take home and share with their family and friends.

Tahoe Chamber thanks Basecamp Hotel for hosting the Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM!) on June 25 at Basecamp’s new bar and beer garden.

It was a wonderful night that included live music, corn hole and tours through the new property, which include rooftop patios and an Airstream trailer. The bar and beer garden are officially open to the public so make it a priority to visit this summer!

The next chamber BAHM! is scheduled for September.

Heavenly's Epic Discovery Project jumps final approval hurdle

Heavenly Mountain Resort has received the final approval needed for its major expansion of on-mountain summer activities. After Vail Resorts gained approval from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) on March 27, they needed the blessing of the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Board, which they received today.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center's Friday Night Summer Programs Begin July 11

The Lake of the Sky Amphitheater evening programs at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center begin July 11, 2014, and continue every Friday evening through August.

The series kicks off Friday, July 11, with "An Evening with Mark Twain" featuring McAvoy Layne performing as Mark Twain live on stage at 7 p.m.

Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Offers Summer Fun for Kids

Over 120 kids have taken advantage of the summer programs at the Boys and Girls Club in South Lake Tahoe. They started the summer off with a bang with a plethora of activities in the first week. They went swimming at the recreation center, enjoyed ice hockey, spent time building paddleboards, went ice skating, had drama club, golf club and bmx club, Jr Staff program, beach trips, trout creek, water day, soccer, sewing, and many more fun activities.

There are still opening available but they are going quickly.

Programs in July include: “Snowshoe Thompson” on July 12 at 7 p.m.; “Winged flight at Night” on July 19 at 8:30 p.m.; and “Fly Fishing in the Lake Tahoe Basin” on July 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Summer programs continue in August at Taylor Creek Visitor Center

The Summer Keynote Speaker Series at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center continues every Thursday evening through August at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater. The programs are sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service and the Tahoe Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with the Forest Service to conduct interpretive and environmental education programs in the Tahoe. Donations to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation are welcomed.
