Kudos: Bread & Broth thanks Kirkwood Mountain Resort

It’s a bit of a drive for Kirkwood Mountain Resort team members to travel to South Lake Tahoe to volunteer at a Bread & Broth Monday Meal dinner at St. Theresa Grace Hall, however, it is a trip that the Kirkwood folks gladly make. Every other month 4-5 Kirkwood team members participate in Kirkwood’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment and join the B&B volunteers in serving the members of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. Often there is a waiting list of Vail folks who want to come help at the B&B dinners.

Outpouring of love by South Shore community for Camp Fire victims

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It takes a tragedy to bring people together, no matter their politics, their income or twitter handle.

Many in the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers community remember where they were at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2007 and what happened in the days that followed. The Angora Fire quickly tore through neighborhoods, destroying 251 homes and burning 3,100 acres. While it seems small in comparison with the monster fires of 2017 and 2018, it took everything from so many local families.

The community came together to help their friends and neighbors.

Kudos: Bread & Broth thanks Tahoe Beach Retreat

“Just like food fills the stomach, being able to serve fills our heart,” exclaimed Nathan Duke. Nathan came to the October 22nd Monday Meal as an Adopt-A-Day sponsor crew member for the Tahoe Beach Retreat. Not only was this Nathan’s first experience helping at a B&B dinner but it was also the first time volunteering at a B&B event for his two fellow Beach Retreat crew members, Buffy Linkul and Jenna Overman.

Loved ones remembered at Light up a Life

As the days get shorter approaching the winter solstice, we count on the holiday gatherings and Christmas lights in our community to brighten up our lives. For many people, the parties and celebrations in this season are a poignant reminder of what has changed in the past year. Some of the people that have been part of our traditions are no longer here. What we think should be the “happiest time of the year” just seems all wrong.

South Lake Tahoe honors veterans at American Legion ceremony

Each of us is better today thanks to a veteran. These were the opening words of the annual Veterans Day observance at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday.

"Today we honor all veterans as we do in times of peace and in times of war," said Mayor Wendy David. "Sadly the Great War wasn't the war to end all wars.

"To our vets, thanks will never be enough," she added.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For 29 years members of the Barton Hospital Auxiliary and their volunteers have been creating cheese balls to sell during the holidays, and for 29 years the popularity of the garlicky, nutty and slightly spicy cheese balls has continued to grow.

One creamy swipe across a piece of sourdough bread or dipped with a cracker, and anyone with a discerning palate can tell the difference between store-bought and these homemade delights.

But what is in that tasty swipe is a guarded secret.
